Booked our flights (to Bangkok)

Hi all,

In relation to my topic posted a few days ago – Flying with “foreign” airlines I thought I would let you know that we’ve booked it.

We’re flying direct from Heathrow to Bangkok on Saturday 5th July at 21:30hrs and returning on Monday 28th July at 01:10hrs (the time we leave Bangkok).

But who do we fly with? I did mention a number of airlines. Since my parents loved Qatar Airways, we tried to get onto one of their top notch A330 flights which go via Doha. Unfortunately for us, the LHR to DOH flights were full.

British Airways were expensive, Aeroflot just didn’t appeal and a few others could not be done for a number of reasons.

So, we’re flying with Thailand’s own Thai Airways International on a non-stop 747 service!

Why on earth is T5 so excited?

I’m so excited because I have never flown on a 747 aircraft nor any other 4 engined jet. So this will be a first for me and I cannot wait.

The downsides to flying Thai

Well, the flight is 12 hours non stop which is going to kill me. I’ve done 10 hours and just about survived, but 12 is taking the p*ss!

Also, Thai do not have PTVs in their economy cabin – I should be able to live without these.

The good things to flying Thai

They are part of the Star Alliance and if they’re anything like United (which I don’t think they are according to the reviews on CarSurvey.org, I’ll be even more chuffed!)

Sounds good. A trip on a 747, what I wouldn’t give for that chance! You must be sure to do a write up when you return. 🙂
