In our local paper this week this site gets a mention http://www.underthewire.co.uk
Certainly brings backs some memories for me….seeing the Renault 4 vans race by heralding the imminent arrival over our back field of the Pawnee.

My father Clive Cliff worked there as an engineer in the 60s, I have lots of memories of the place and people. Dad used to come home in the evening covered in the chemicals that they used… Especially if he was doing field marking, standing at the edge of the last pass with his flag to show where the next spraying was to begin, a very unhealthy occupation but at least he managed to live to a ripe old age (over 80) so it can`t have done him too much harm. Thanks Clive for posting . Brilliant photographs and videos of crop spraying operations in the sixties . I can remember watching G-ASFZ at work near RAF Manby and getting myself and new bicycle covered in a green spray. Circled home straight away to get clean and worried the bike was going to need repainting. It was potato spray and really ponged. Stupid I know but loved to see the real low flying and art of the pilots.
I recently bought new from United Writers ” Six Feet Over” and shall order the new book on Lincs Aerial Spraying. Nice change from Spitfires !

I remember reading another good book on this subject – ‘Six Feet Over’ by Peter Charles.
