Some pics from the recent Independence Day flypast and Gaborone International airshow, both in September celebrating 50 years of independence for Botswana. The 412 is Botswana’s president, Ian Khama, giving a joy ride to the school band who had opened the show with the national anthem!

Looks like an excellent show and congratulations on the photographs. The Botswana Defence Force looks as though it has a pretty good selection of aircraft. Where is the P-51 Mustang based?

Hi,

It belongs to Menno Parson’s – who seems to building quite a fleet. It includes ‘Mustang Sally’, a T-28, Boeing Steerman (I think!), a DC-3, a Huey, and a L-59. I believe they are all based at Lanseria on the edge of J’burg.

Cheers

Jonathan
