Boultbee Flight Academy approved for Spitfire passenger flying

Looks like BFA at Goodwood are the first in the UK to get CAA approval under informed consent to fly the public…exciting times. Expect there will be more news soon with details, prices etc…having been training licensed pilots on the Spitfire for almost 4 years now, a lot of work has gone into getting this far. With 2 TR9s working at Goodwood and a setup in Hangar 8 to rival Stallion 51 in the US, hopefully next year will introduce many more to the amazing experience of strapping in behind a Merlin and taking to the air…

That looks to be PV202 in an earlier scheme.

It certainly shows the efficacy of the Brown/Green camouflage over the Grey/Green camouflage in that setting.

A lovely shot of a pair of two seat Spitfires in the Boultbee advert on the inside cover of March 2015 Aeroplane.

Looks to be an edited version of this image from their sites gallery…

Does anyone know if these changes in the CAAs outlook apply to other single engined warbirds and indeed to multi-engined warbirds. Might it be possible that, should they wish to, operators of aircraft such as the B17 and Blenheim might offer flights or single engined aircraft like the Lysander?

I’m targeting achievable goals by increments and working my way up!

A justifiable course of action… And remember most Spits do not have a floor, so when eating your inflight peanuts, out of the packet is The preferred method over the on a plate method any day.

Mine cost me a dinner in the Holiday Inn restaurant at Fond du Lac. About $25 IIRC. 🙂

Is it true there is a coin slot in the back-cockpit and you have to put in two pound coins every second or else the engine stops ?

Two pounds a second!!

That would run my flights from Aspen to Oshkosh up close to £40k…but all logged P/UT

I well remember my first flight in a Spitfire in 1969, G-AIDN with John Fairey…just £20 towards the fuel. 🙂

They will have already reviewed and considered the post from Propstrike then – two people to a seat!

Nice suggestion!

But one every second airborne doesn’t actually cover the flight cost. That’s a scary thought isn’t it?

Why on earth would anyone want to fly in a noisy vibrating rattly piston jobby, you might as well fly in a Piper Cherokee….. Far better doing aeros and flying faster than the speed of sound in a jet fighter or the likes, now that would be fun. 😉

Vegas every single time!

Come on, CIRCUS 6, Lockheed Vegas are fantastic in their own way, but compared to Spitfires…come on!

With guys like Matt Jones, Richard Verrall, Willy Hackett, Phill O’Dell, Al Pinner, Cliff Spink, Pete Kynsey, Ian Smith and Bill Dean in the front seat it wont get any better.

Two of them I could put up with, but if it is going to be that crowded, I might just pass 🙂

I didn’t realise the undercarriage selector in the spitfire was complex as MARK 12 wrote in his post.

There are other options to consider, on the odd time they come up….I was able (just) to negotiate £500 out of our account to board the BofB veterans Airbus flight. Affordable (for my budget), and unforgetable.

To be honest, I’d happily start with their Chipmunk. I was 14 when I last got a ride in one just as the Air cadets were phasing them out. It was Bulldogs after that.
