Boulton Paul D type turret

Thanks chaps for your input , i have seen that piece of armoured glass before it might be from a  Marauder rear turret but i cant  be for certain , i will have to so some research .

As for Tettenhall , yep i went there and took loads of pictures and measurements but i dont remember seeing any thing to answer my question but never mind i will be calling again soon along with the RAFs example at Cosford .Hopefully between the two i can work it out ?

Ah i selected the wrong picture the last picture is of the underside of the turret showing the commutator again this is some thing else that we need .

Here is a picture of the shutters mentioned in the previous post !

Has any body got any of these items tucked away in their store room or under a bench ?

The first is the ninety degree elevation gear box which carries the drive shaft to both gun mounts  the operators view has a turn handle which i presume engages and disengages the transmission as and when required.

The second picture is of the shutters which slide up and down with the movement of the gun mounts  and any thing else which might help with its restoration ?

No. It has not been digitised either. You will have to visit, get a viewer’s card (free) and order up the documents you wish to see. The good news is that they have a Shackleton vol 1 for the turret as well. 

AP No. 2796J – The ‘J’ suggests there will have been other AP’S for other aircraft types A, B, C etc. I suspect the general information contained within all of them would be similar.

Brian we have met at the studio  , i might of shown you pictures of the three American turrets that i am restoring along with the other gun mounts so all that information on US Armaments is just fantastic ,

It may not be relevant to a BP turret  but this link has various fittings used for 50 cal and 30 cal mounts

The RAF Museum has copies of parts of the AP.

Have you tried to acquire a copy of AP 2796?  It may be of use to you.
