Boulton-Paul Sea Balliol T21

I am just wondering why they went from the Mk1 and 2 and then jumped to the Mk21 for the Sea Balliol. Can’t think of any other aircraft that do that…any ideas?

Ditto (eventually) the Seafire 45-47 series, and the Sea Fury Mk.10 (didn’t have to go so far up once the RAF Furies were cancelled).

There were lots of examples of this; basically it was to differentiate them from RAF variants. Also applied to foreign exports, usually in the 50-series.

Likewise with the Sea Venom.
