A few photos I did manage to take, albeit hazy during much of the show.
Most of the aircraft were too far away for me to get good pictures with my camera.
As I’ve said elsewhere, also disappointed that there was no Vulcan 🙁

Hi Cliff
Thanks for the comments.
I was on the cliffs between the two piers. One of the guys from the Bournemouth museum stand gave me the tip.
In the morning I walked along the prom and spotted the dayglow datum point on the cliffs. This was visable from the path along the top and so I got as close to the point as possible.
Certainly hope I can make next years show.

Hi Phil,
Some really good shots… Wonder exactly where you were, was it on Boscombe cliffs or were you further down the coast??
Cracking site by the way!
Cheers

Just managed to get my shots on my website. They were taken with a 400mm lens from the cliffs and im not sure if it was the weather brought them further inshore but I had to do hardly any cropping.

Re the Reds, James.
I have no idea – but it would seem to be a logical explanation. Maybe someone in the know will post here before too long.

Hi Rob,
Thank you for the camera/lens info. Yes the aircraft do look a little further away than normal.
And thanks for your nice comments about the glider pics of Shoreham from last year.
The Cat did not land at Eastbourne either but of course they do not want any premature corrosion. The closest thing I got to it landing was a shadow on the water.
Thanks
Martin

I have a Fuji Finepix S6500fd, which isn’t a true SLR, but what is known as a prosumer or bridge. Cost: Circa £150.
It sports a 300mm (SLR equivalent) 10.7x lens. For the majority of those pictures, I also used a Fuji 1.5x teleconverter (actually designed for the S5000) which can only be used at full lens extension.
The Shoreham glider photos, on your website, are brilliant, Martin.
We were all hoping that they’d release the glider at Bournemouth and go for a shore based (or water 😀 ) landing. It would have been nice to see the Catalina do a touch and go too.

Hi Rob
As a matter of inerest what lens were you using? Your pics are nicely well framed.
I don’t know why the Reds left sooner than expected.
Thanks

I was on Bournemouth Pier, Martin. But even if I had been in the middle of the display area I doubt it would have made much difference – plus the sun would be in “the wrong” place.
The Red Arrows scarpered a bit quick, before the usual end of their display, so I guess activity at Bournemouth airport must have caused a problem. But if anyone knows the real reason, I’d be interested to know.

Hi Rob
Aircraft ‘too far away’ for photography is common for many seaside shows as you are probably aware. There were suggestions that Bournemouth pier may have been a good place though I believe it was not part of the display datum.
I was going to go on Friday but going to Shoreham on Saturday and Sunday would have beeen too much for me so I dropped Bournemouth.
Thanks for posting.
