Bought this in about 1989 from a Junk Shop in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, for the grand sum of £12.00. I know that it is old, but is that an American Baseball, and what is the base, this has a coars thread turned inside.

Don’t want to upset the apple cart . . . I like to visit antique shops here in the USA, and have found many of these P-38s, evidently of recent vintage, but made to look antique….
How do you know that yours is in fact, an old model? I would like to know, in case I happen to come across the real thing.
Saludos,

Wouldn’t be a period home made radiator mascot?

the base looks like something that someone who worked around heavy machinery (maybe maintenance) may have put together. The “cog” or flat part of the base looks like one of those wheels designed to be turned by hand to tighten/loosen clamps et al on jigs etc. (sorry for the bad decsription). The ball, which you can see is a complete sphere, could perhaps of been a large ball bearing that someone chucked into a lathe? The arm could have been anything, but maybe originally a bracket. Some creative brazing and a trip to the platers and there’s your base…
Very cool at any rate!
cheers

Nice, and in my opinion well worth twelve quid.
Agreed.
In fact, I’d give you £12.50 for it 😉

It’s not something similar to a RR figure, Jaguar Jag, etc is it?

No, that’s not a baseball, although it could be a rough facsimile of a cricket ball.
Nice, and in my opinion well worth twelve quid.
