Brazil will modernize more than 11 F-5E/F that were purchased in Jordan. This new batch will join with 46 F-5E/F which has been modernized and are now known as F-5M.
The first F-5M was delivered to Brazilian Air Force FAB (Força Aérea Brasileira) on September 21, 2005. The new radar is installed Grifo F FAB allowed to enter combat in BVR. To install the new radar was one of the guns removed. The modernization was attended by Embraer with the help of Elbit.
This purchase will give extra fab 57 F-5M (51 F-5E and 6 F-5F).
