After 13 years of development, Brazil is starting the homologation process of the SCP-01 Scipio radar. This multimode radar will start equip the Brazilian A-1’s (AMX’s) in 2003.
After 2 years working in the project, Mectron, which is the company which assumed the assumed the radar development substituting the Tectelcom Aeroespacial, finally integrated the radar in an EMBRAER’s airplane and now is conducing the flight tests of the equipament.
The development contract is calculated at US$ 4 milions and the production one over US$ 15 milions. The Brazilian Air Force, due to discontinuity of the project by the first 2 companies contracted – Tecnasa and Tectelcom Aeroespacial – decided to repass the responsability of the coordenation of the project to the Italian company Galileo, which is envolved in the project since its beginning.
Galileo is also responsible at the development of the radar’s transmissor and processor.
