Does anyone know anything about the Brazilian Navy’s Museum da Aviacao Naval (Naval Aviation Museum)which apparently is inside the Naval Air Station in S. Pedro D’Aldeia, some 80 miles north of Rio de Janeiro? I have a friend visiting Brazil who wants to go there, but can’t find anything about it – opening times, exhibits etc. There is no official website and nothing is any of Bob Ogden’s Museum books. Apparently they have a Westland Widgeon and Wasp, Sea King, Tracker and more! Through doing an extensive Google search, I found these photos of a Wasp and Widgeon, but am unsure if they are at this museum or not? Hopefully someone has been there or knows?

Very interesting! Firstly I never knew Brazil had any Avengers and certainly haven’t seen any photos of them until now. Don’t worry about the quality, Roger, as these are much appreciated and not only by me I’m sure 😉

That’s very interesting Roger, never knew that. Even more reason to find info on this elusive museum!

Well, severall Avengers of the Dutch Navy were obtained by the Brazilian Navy for use onboard their carrier. Most of these , if not all, were obtained after they were being phased out by the Dutch at Hato, At least one servived into the seventies when it was last seen, without its outer wings, somewhere at a facility near Rio. First the Brazilian Avengers were midnight blue, but were later repainted in a high viz white and red. BW Roger

Never heard of it. Is it known if they have an Avenger there?
BW Roger
Considering the Brazilian Navy never operated Avengers, I very much doubt it!

In the event that he is continuing research for further museum books Bob Ogden may perhaps now have info on this.
The snail-mail address in his new European Museums book is:
13, Western Avenue, Woodley, Berkshire, RG5 3BJ. if you should want to write to him.
