The two UK travel/tour operators are to merge to form one ‘super’ operator. What this means for the respective airlines and naming remains to be seen…

Thomas Cook are the big players here, Cant see anything other than a TCX rebrand. Where is Mytraveluk when you need him/her?

The 767’s are for disposal November ’07.

where too ???? Monarch maybe to replace A300’s or 757’s ????
As for MyTravel it was good while it lasted and its shame that its one less possible career option. Theyre seems to be less airlines these days then theyre used to be.

Does anyone know what routes MYT’s B767’s are operating this summer?
Just what i was going to ask. I suppose one will be MAN based and another up in Glasgow again maybe ?

Does anyone know what routes MYT’s B767’s are operating this summer? We are looking to book a holiday soon and the 767’s are going soon …… my little mission to get on one again! lol 😀
Has there been any confirmation of what brands are to stay and which are to go? A mate of mine said that he heard they are going to be selling holidays under the Thomas Cook and Airtours brands with flights operated by MyTravel airways as they are going to use MYTs operating licence or something?? anyone else heard the same?
Any help much appreciated

It would be sad to see my travel go , although i think the Thomas Cook livery are better.

I hope everything works out job-wise for everyone in this and it turns out to be a mere rebranding under the TCX banner but i suspect not as in most cases and other industries , there are always “casualties”…not good.
This article in the Glasgow Evening Times paints more of a picture, sounds like job cuts indeed and most of them within the UK…?

Just been working out how many aircraft the new airline will have once the merger is complete. Well I’ve worked it out, and it stands at 45 aircraft. not bad to say it’s a charter airline.
Compromising the following.
16 X’s Airbus A320.s = G-BYTH, G-BXKA/C/D, G-TCKE, G-CRPH, G-DHJZ, G-DHRG, G-ERAA, G-FTDF, G-GTDL, G-JOEM, G-KKAZ, G-OMYA, G-SUEW, G-VCED.
4 X’s Airbus A321’s = G-DHJH, G-NIKO, G-OMYK, G-SMTJ
6 X’s Airbus A330’s = G-OJMB/C, G-TCXA, G-MDBD, G-MLJL, G-OMYT
18 X’s Boeing 757’s = G-FCLA/B/C/D/E/F/G/H/I/J/K, G-JMCD/E/F/G, G-TCBA, G-JMAA/B
2 X’s Boeing 767-300’s = G-DAJC, G-SJMC

What does this mean in terms of the First Choice and Thomas Cook merge that was being talked about? Down the drain or still a possiblity and creating an even larger group?
By: Bmused55 - 12th February 2007 at 14:11
……..The Airtours name is much better known, and I never understood why they changed the group name to start with………
Me neither and in my opinion, thats where it all started to go wrong for them.
By: happygolucky - 12th February 2007 at 13:56
Mytravel is only a known name now because of it’s recent financial problems, Thomas Cook dates back to 1841. The Airtours name is much better known, and I never understood why they changed the group name to start with, I would imagine the Airtours name would be retained in addition to Thomas Cook, perhaps replacing JMC.
That said, there needs to be consolidation in the UK package holiday market, as it has been a poor couple of years in the industry with over capicity issues and smaller profit margins, due to a number of things such as Sars, Bird Flu, good weather, terrorisim scares and of course the influx of low-co’s and bed banks.
I, from a travel agent’s point of view see this as a good move, although I fear there will be big job cuts for the workforce.
By: charlieflies - 12th February 2007 at 13:41
to me it seems that MYT have had no say in this, their company identity has just lost itself now and wont ever re-appear. I personally think this is a step backward for the travel industry, it is becoming such a dominated place, unless First Chioce are bought/merged then they are not going to easily survive as there will be so much competition between MYT/TCX and the TUI groups.
It has been said that the merger will try to compete with lo-cost airlines, could this mean that the airline could be sperated into two parts for example B757/A330 package holidays and A320/A321 lo-co sun flights?
One good thing is that both TCK/MYT have still got some commitment to regional airports, lets hope this will see more aircraft spread over the UK rather than MAN and LGW:D

I too think the Thomas Cook brand will win over here. It has history, its a strong brand and well known. Its been around since the arrival of the Steam Train, whereas My Travel is, in relation, a newcommer.

Has this been on the cards for some time or has TCX been waiting for MYT to start posting a profit before jumping in ? I can’t find any articles stating this was a possibility.
Having listned to radio reports today and read the internet detail then it does seem TCX will be the banner-brand and MYT will be consigned to the long list of past liveries.
By: Ren Frew - 12th February 2007 at 12:41
My gut instinct is that it will all rebrand under the Thomas Cook brand, seeing as they will own more of the new company.
By: charlieflies - 12th February 2007 at 12:11
Lets hope this does not mean the end of the MyTravel brand, that would be a shame as I really liked it. I wonder what this will mean for the aviation side, could we see one large airline or do you think they may keep them seperate?
By: Ren Frew - 12th February 2007 at 11:45
… and more to the point – the staff. Fingers crossed that they all get kept on.
Of course…
