Breaking News *** Zoom flights grounded !

News just happening, it would appear all Zoom services have been cancelled or ‘subject to extensive delay’ as the airline struggles with unpaid debts, said to be in their millions…

More as I hear it.

Very sad. My dad was talking to an ex-training captain with them today as well. So sad for all the aircrews and for those who may end up out of pocket.

Some more disturbing news I have just learned, according to the Civil Aviation Authority, Zoom had approximatley 60,000 forward bookings, and there are as many as 4,500 UK passengers abroad that have been left stranded by the collapse.

To rub salt into the wounds, passengers who booked direct with the carrier now have to make alternative arrangements with other airlines at their own cost because the CAA’s ATOL scheme does not cover customers who book flights directly with airlines such as Zoom.

Any passengers with forward bookings who booked using a credit card are advised by the CAA to contact their credit card company about refunds.

Very sad news! Flown twice with them, and they really were a superb little airline.

Another one bites the dust.

Sorry to see them go, but we better get use to this, as this ‘recession’ and other factors are hitting not only the public hard but also Avation hard.

Oh dear

Just completed my annual A.R.T course with a cabin crew member who’s husband works for Zoom, she was only telling me today how much he was enjoying his job. I guess she had a shock when she got home. 🙁

Sad for all those involved

Sad News – but it’s their own fault I guess.

Hopefully we’ll see them in the skies again one day…

Yes, very sad news indeed…:(

I somewhat doubt that we will see them fly again to be honest, how many other airlines have managed to come out of bankruptcy and begun to fly again…Eos, MaxJet, Silverjet, OASiS and many others have all stopped flying for the same or similar reasons and none have managed to resume flights so far. The only airline I know that has survived a bankruptcy is MK Airlines, but they are just a cargo airline, and have not re-commenced flying as far as I am aware.

Zoom Airlines sincerely regrets to advise its customers that it has ceased operations with effect from 18:00 UTC on Thursday 28 August.

All flights scheduled to depart from have been cancelled and Zoom’s aircraft have been grounded.

Both Zoom Airlines Inc and Zoom Airlines Ltd, the Canadian and UK airlines, will be filing for insolvency proceedings in their home countries today.

For customers who have future travel plans involving a Zoom flight for which reservations and payment have been made, you should refer to your credit or debit card company to apply for a refund. We have set out details of other airlines who operate the same or similar routes to those flown with Zoom in the hope that this may assist you in making alternative travel plans to replace the flights that you had booked with Zoom.

If your travel arrangements have been made as part of a holiday package originating in the UK and booked through a holiday company, you may be able to make a claim under the CAA’s Air Travel Organiser’s Licence scheme. For information on this, please consult the CAA ATOL website at www.atol.org.uk.

Hugh and John Boyle, the founders of Zoom, said today: “We deeply regret the fact that we have been forced to cease all Zoom operations. It is a tragic day for our passengers and more than 600 staff.

“We are desperately sorry for the inconvenience that this will cause passengers and those who have booked flights.

“We have done everything we can to support the airline and left no stone unturned to secure a re-financing package that would have kept our aircraft flying. Even as late as yesterday we had secured a new investment package but the actions of creditors meant we could not continue flying.

“The collapse of Zoom is a result of matter beyond our control. Only last year Zoom Airlines made profit, but that turned into a loss in the last year due to the unprecedented increase in the price of aviation fuel and the economic climate. The price of oil resulted in our fuel bill jumping by nearly $50 million in one year and we could not recover that from passengers who had already booked their flights.

“We would like to thank the many thousands of passengers who chose to travel with Zoom during the last seven years and efforts of the airline’s staff.”

We have been advised that British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are graciously offering special fares to assist Zoom customers that have been displaced by the suspension of our services.

Such a shame to see an airline i am so close with go down…Only 2 months ago i was walking around the office and everything was running like clockwork 🙁

I feel sorry for all the great people i was fortunate enough to meet there, not only Hugh Boyle and Jonathan Hinkles, but the people whos names no-body knows. The ones sat in the office, at the end of the day. Those are the people i feel are worse off in these sort of situation

Canadian news, eight flights grounded!:(

It doesn’t look good does it ? I flew GLA-YYZ-GLA in April, first time with Zoom and was hoping it wouldn’t be the last. They ran a very good service IMHO…

Their 757 is currently parked up on a remote stand at GLA, the same stand the ill fated Air Scotland A320 ended up on for ages after they went belly up. It would appear to have become ‘bankruptcy corner’…

Seems to be a local matter concerning unpaid NATS fees at GLA…
