Breighton Airshow – Many Thanks

I spent a very enjoyable day at Breighton’s airshow today. It was only my second visit in a long time, but what a great day out. A very nice selection of classic aircraft on display.

So I’d just like to let the organisers know what a good job they have done. Loads of people there but still no fighting for a place at the barrier, not a wind break in sight, excellent flying displays and one or two ‘Spotters’ thrown in for amusement!

A thread has been started with some photo’s here….. BREIGHTON AIRSHOW, to which I’ve added a selection of my pictures.

And there’s me thinking it was just the flying arrivals which were unpredictable!

Hope Taff enoyed his birthday as much we enjoyed attending! (I’m sure he did)

An Optimist at Breighton

One of the guys doing the tickets on the gate at Breighton told me that he had a customer who said, “My wife isn’t interested in aeroplanes; can she get in free?”
There was also a lady who tried to use the toilet in one of the members caravans!
It takes all sorts. 😀

Sick Merlin

Anyone any info on the Buchons rather hairy “finale” with spitfire MH434, a magnificant display by both of these was followed by Taff calling engine problems. His first approach to R11 with smoke coming out resulted in a go around, his second approach and subsequent landing was interesting to say the least, Taff cut the motor asap and Brian & co raced to him.
Fortunately all ok, don’t know about the Buchon’s merlin though!

Nothing wrong with the engine itself (fortunately). The problem was due to a carb fault causing it to run too rich at idling. The result was that Taff couldn’t close the throttle or the engine would stop and on opening the throttle the excess fuel caused the dramatic black smoke. Nothing that a few hundred quid won’t put right. It made for an interesting 60th Birthday for Taff.
Thanks for all your kind comments on the show. We all worked damned hard and it is nice to know our efforts were appreciated.

Just echoing everyone else’s comments – a wonderful weekend, thanks to everyone who made it possible. The mix of warbirds, classic sporting aircraft and one of a kind designs make this place truly unique.

Many Thanks

Agree with Vultee that it was a great show and second his thanks to the organisers AND to the operators who brought their expensive to run warbirds and oldies to Breighton . Its becoming a must do annual event now

I’d like to add my thanks also. Both days of the show this year have been fantastic and with good weather too. It will take me days to sort through all my photos. The atmosphere at Breighton is tremendous. There was so much going on this year with terrific displays and entertainment from the balloon bursting to the WWI dogfight with classic cars and bikes. Seeing the Buchon flown at long last was just great and then to see the display with it and the Spitfire was just terrific – also seeing the Mew Gull flown with the Mustangs was superb. Everyone around me seemed to be having a good time. I would like to thank all those involved the last two days have been great fun!

Sunday at Breighton

Just have to add to what’s been said here. Not long back from one of the most enjoyable days ever. NO bouncy castles or fun fairs, magnificent photo opportunities and a superb, diverse range of aircraft with pretty much constant flying for over four or more hours. All this in superb Yorkshire sunshine for tenner. It has to be one of the friendliest of little venues – certainly laid back and no-one rushes around – big garden party really. And with the Buchon & MH434 displaying as a pair for the show finale – well……

It’s my fourth Breighton of one shape or another and it never fails to please. A big thanks to everyone involved for suberbly organised, diverse event. Cheers.

Just like to second all that Steve has said. This venue is less than 70 miles from home and yesterday was my first visit.
Having decided to give RIAT a miss, and having been to Old Warden twice this years already, I thought I try something different, and I’m glad I did.
I’m just sorting through my photos to post on the Photographic / Airshow Photos Forum.
Again a big thanks to all those involved in organising a very friendly event.
