Yesterday I was in a train passing through Grenchen station in Switzerland. As we passed the Breitling HQ building my wife pointed out an aeroplane on the roof. I missed it, but found through Google that it is a Spitfire. I assume it is a replica, but just want to be sure. Advice please.
Also, while searching, I discovered that Breitling have an F-104 mounted on a roundabout near Grenchen airfield. What is its identity, please?
For photos, see Google!
Thanks.

I can’t imagine with the current Spitfire values, that anyone (even a maker of expensive watches) would use a real one as a simple “attention getter”.
I love my Breitling…I’m glad to see they’re spending their money wisely…:)

Thanks Graeme. So it is a replica, as I expected. Quite a dramatic sight though!

Hi Laurence,
This is the text.
‘As a full-scale model of the Spitfire MH434 crowns the Breitling headquarters in Grenchen, (Switzerland) and the company has proudly supported the Jetman project since 2010, this formation flight reflects the luxury watch provider’s true passion for aviation throughout the eras. ‘
And this is the website

Hope this helps.

Where in Google is that, Graeme? I couldn’t find that statement.
MH434 is a favourite of mine since I saw it at Middelkerke in 1959 as OO-ARA.

Hi,
Good old Google says it is a replica of MH434 which of course was part of the Breitling fighters. So it’s a MkIX.

Thanks Graham. The Su-26 is at the airport hotel.
The Spitfire is on the roof of the Breitling HQ building near the train station. See:

Thanks Mothminor. It looks better in those USAF colours than its light blue of a few years ago.

Can’t tell you about the Spitfire but the F-104 is MM-6830 formerly of the Italian Air Force though now in USAF colours –
