Brenzett aero jumble just around the corner 27/9/14 lots of stalls booked

Hi all a final reminder that the Brenzett aero jumble is just around the corner, the date Sept 27th 2014.

Ive heard from a good source that there are a really good number of stalls, including a good few ‘new’ traders having booked.

And of course Also, a chance to view the museum at the same time.

looking forward as just down the road for me.

Lets hope there is a good turn out as we need to keep this on our Aero jumble calender….

To those who looked askance as I walked away with a tatty looking wooden chair – I have been cleaning it up to show its history.

A Ministry of Air Production 1941 chair – assigned to De Havilland.

I also spent yesterday recovering and getting this Lancaster bomb shackle working.

Did anyone purchase the Mid upper Turret from the Lancaster?

The cupola was last seen being loaded into the van of a certain, larger than life dealer from Lincolnshire.

I expect it will be on ebay shortly.

Yes, I remember thinking “only twenty minutes to the M20!” on saturday afternoon, as I contemplated the other six hours up to London, the Dartford Tunnel, M25, M11, A14, A1M, M18 etc, etc.

I experienced “Newark indoor aeroboot” results: not much to buy anymore in my particular spheres of collecting, balanced by moderate sales on the other hand.

Had it actually been a day out, 80 mile each way, Newark jaunt, I would have been reasonably content with the results, but the vast distance travelled, the associated costs, plus the fatigue (we’re none of us getting any younger) made it all very disappointing.

I’ve pre-booked for April (Andy, you asked for a reminder) but should the event not recover to the Shoreham levels, I’m afraid it’ll have to be my last.

It’s a lovely venue and I wish Brenzett well if they are taking on Andy’s mantle. I think extensive advertising and online promotion will be necessary if it is to survive and flourish.

I too hope it continues and that Brenzett will have success with it, I wondered if people were put off by the location, but for those travelling from the M25, the M20 is more straightforward than going down to Shoreham, I know in the past some people didn’t enjoy the drive all the way down to the South Coast.

A key to success hopefully Brenzett will grasp is that timing of the event is everything, an event can be significantly affected by other events like airshows.

I will keep going to see if it builds up again.

Hi just heard this from one of the organizers of the Benzetts first aero jumble to me great news, well done to all those who attended….

‘The first aerojumble at Brenzett was a success as far as the ‘hosts’ at the museum were concerned and I am pleased to say that there are plans to continue with it. There are already plans to run the next event in April 2015, and thereafter annually during April.

Whilst the gate was a little disappointing this needs to be viewed in conjunction with the following facts: (a) it was a ‘first’ event (b) it was at an untried venue, and, (c) the September sales (when we used to run an event in March and September) were always significantly slower.

The overwhelming majority of traders were happy with the event and have already indicated they will come back if the event continues. Whilst some traders report business as slow, one trader who normally takes about £650 managed to take well over £1,300.

As to the marquee, the perception was that it was a tad empty. However, we only ever book a marquee to suit the bookings as the hire cost is simply too eye watering to book a marquee that exceeds our requirements! The situation, though, is as follows. First, selling stalls down the middle row is always difficult with traders preferences to be against the marquee wall. As it happened, seven of the middle row stalls elected to go outside because it was a nice day and there were four empty stall spaces around the edges simply because three were ‘no-shows’ (despite having paid) and one re-located to the centre row for more room. In total, we had eighteen stalls outside the marque and, overall, five more stalls booked than at the last Shoreham! The quality and mix of goods seemed really good to me – but it depends what one is looking for, of course. For my part, I picked up a Messerschmitt 109 E wheel and tyre and some stunningly rare books. Stuff was there if you looked for it.

All in all, I think the event and venue both have potential to develop and prosper and I hope it continues to be supported.

As for the future, my intention is pretty much to hand the event over to the Brenzett Museum and most agreed it was a cracking venue. Despite perceptions, it is really easy to get to – only twenty minutes from the M20! Having taken over the editorship of ‘Britain at War’, plus other work and currently some time consuming family commitments, means that I no longer have time to devote to running the event but I will continue to be associated with it for the foreseeable future. I will continue to have input and to advise and assist, and the event will be run as per the Shoreham model.

I hope it continues to have a life and that it will be well supported’.

Kind regards

Andy Saunders

Seemed quiet with a lot of gaps – But I managed to get a few pieces – a small Ju87 elevator section, P51 blast tube, Lancaster rudder trim tab section and bomb shackle, Small lat mark spitfire section, reference book as well as picking up some pre arranged pieces – a Vampire wheel spat and a 1941 Ministry of Air Production ( de Havilland ?) desk chair with nice crown markings.

I also acquired a very nice replacement 1899 Japanese cavalry sword to replace the one that my son bent on a watermelon.

I was tempted by the Halifax chair but the price and the crack on the base made me think twice – thank you for buying it hawker 1966 as I was tempted.

Frazzled as the return trip to Cumbria Via Cardiff took all day!

Your a Gem for making such a long journey, Glad you made some good purchases as this is what its all about. well done mate..

Cumbria well done…

This one on October 11th, 2014 is north of Brenzett but south of Scotland! 😀

I’ll try to get a space update added to the NAM website – more applications were waiting to be opened yesterday!

It was down on previous events but I have never yet attended one and come back empty handed. The site has excellent scope and those that enjoy rummaging about for parts should support it. Much more fun and productive than eBay. Andy still continues to run the best aero jumble down south and maybe we need to bare with it while the dust settles. With the Halifax seat and Lanc turret and a number of fast jet sticks about it still offered a number of treasures. Also an original Stuka panel.

Couldn’t agree more with the above, (as Brenzett had its first airing) i was pleasantly surprised how many stall holders there were, considering it was Brenzetts first time of holding the event.

As i have previously stated these events must be supported otherwise they are to be lost from the calender, lets hope it was successful for the organizers who put so much time and effort into this type of event,i for one will be there for the next event.

I missed the Stuka panel anyone purchase it if so any photos?

There was also a nice Hurricane grip with Gun button up for a reasonably £650..

For me personally nothing, there were a very poor amount of traders there, the Marquee was only about half full very disappointing, maybe the move of venue has had an effect, the last event at Shoreham was getting to be more like the old days. I have no doubt some people found an item or two.

Unfortunately I cannot be there this year, good luck to those attending, it would be nice to read a post event report sometime. I know an Australian seller will be there this year, maybe he will have some more RAAF Beaufort yokes for sale! Enjoy to all.
