Connie display

Well when the last connie appeared at cosford i was listening to the tower on my trustee airband receiver, the connie skipper who had just completed two runs up and down cosfords flightline said he had plenty of fuel and didnt mind doing a few more turns and topside views but the cosford controller replied negative as he had another act in the holding spot over some local reservoir i believe? i couldnt believe he denied a longer display of such a rare visitor to these shores to bring on a spotty jet provost from memory? These ATCs have a lot to answer for!

To Aces High Ltd March 1982 and work began on restoration to flying condition

Not strictly true. The plan was to restore it to ground running condition and then use it in the second series of Airline, which never happened.

I have a couple of slides taken from inside the Breitling Connie when it was at Camarillo.

If I can find the box I have put them in, I will post them here (this may take a day or two as I have just moved house and I am still trying to find things).

I was really lucky to see the MATS Connie at Duxford. It came in to land when I was at an MG Owner’s Club meeting! I couldn’t believe my eyes!

Ive seen the TWA Connie at Wroughton a couple of times !! Well it flew in …so maybe …it can fly out ???

Sadly, this is one example that will never fly again due to severe corrosion. 🙁

Remember ‘accidently’ seeing the MATS Connie at Dux in 1998, we (Strangelove & I) only expected to see the Berlin Airlift DC-4. Fantastic sight and sound, and hard to believe that such a beautiful flying machine would end up as a static exhibit in Korea.
Saw it again at that years’ Farnborough show, would be nice to see one there this year.

Well maybe one day when the Dutch is flying again and Swiss Connie fly in formation at legends what a site it would be! And I’ve seen on there website its scheduled for farnbrough so good news I think!

I still remember the Dutch Connie doing a low pass at Southend Airport, on
it’s way to the Netherlands. I think it was flying with a Lear jet, who were
doing the comms.

… when the Dutch is flying again …

Better make that IF the Dutch one is flying again. It is in wonderful condition, as good as airworthy but flying costs are prohibitive, the current owner has gone belly-up and the aircraft has been transferred to a new owner. The new owner of the Aviodrome has stated that at this time no aircraft of the collection are to be flown.

1998 was the (equally lovely) MATS Connie that had come over from the States for the Berlin Airlift 50th celebrations. It operated from Cranfield, where the PFA Rally was being held, over the weekend IIRC.

yep…. we also arranged for Vern and Frank to do a fly-by at Old Warden on their way back from Dux… seeing a Connie low-level there was amazing!

Flying Legends – 10th July 2004. I had just arrived and was parking up my motor bike when it came in to land and then it was a mad dash to get in place to catch it parking up. Taken with a Konica-Minolta Dimage Z1, 3.5MP , 10x Mega-zoom digital camera.

And don’t forget the Aviodrome Connie, which also came through DX on its delivery flight.
