Hi Duggy, there’s a set of Microscale decals for this Spitfire which shows it as a Mk Vc Trop HL-M “Lobo” of the 308th FS. The decal pics don’t show the serial but, looking on the airhistory.org website, it would seem to be JK542.

Hi All,

Duggy1:- This paragraph below from the linked article may give you an avenue to explore if related ?  https://www.wearethemighty.com/mighty-history/jimmy-doolittle-misstep/

” While commanding the 12th Air Force in Africa, he drew the wrath of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower. According to Dik Daso’s biography “Doolittle,” Eisenhower had called Doolittle’s HQ to talk with the general. Doolittle wasn’t in the HQ, he was in a Spitfire taking it for a test flight. Eisenhower expressed his displeasure with his subordinate.”

I strongly believe it was while he was commander of the 307th Fighter Squadron, Twelfth Air Force .between 1942 and 43.so all you need to do is find out what Spitfires were given to the USAAF during that period IMPO.

Geoff.
