Over this bank holiday weekend I have been visiting family in South Wales, and Stoke on Trent, a triangular route I do about once a month, The route takes me past Bristol on the way to Wales, and past Birmingham on the way back home from Stoke, but never before have I had the time to venture into the city’s respective airports.
Due to it being bank holiday this weekend that was different, and yesterday morning we stopped off in Bristol. After driving around for about 40 minutes and finally giving up and buying a map we finally found Filton. However there was nowhere to stop, and we had to drive past the storage area twice to read off everything. There were several interesting residents including a Sheik’s 767, and an ex EAL 742 in full Southern Winds livery. Also parked at the back was an OLT Saab 2000.
Next we travelled the rather long distance to the main Bristol airport at Lulsgate. After driving around for a bit we parked up on the side of the road, but were moved on before anything passed overhead. Thankfully we were given directions to a rather good spotting spot on the far side of the airfield, however this was not too good for photography on westerly operations, except for departures. nevertheless I got a few photos during my short visit.

The B767 at Filton is VP-CME c/n 22567/231 ex TWA N604TW and is based there.
I don’t think FlyBe are taking the two ex Turkish RJ100’s as G-JEBV/W I believe they have returned them and flew from Exeter to Kemble recently for storage.

Andrew, the private 767 is VP-CME, or at least thats the one that was there on Saturday.
Matt, I believe the RJ100s are not coming anymore due to corrosion issues.

Oh and flybe will shortly be taking delivery of some Avro RJ-100’s (ex-Turkish machines) which will replace some of the older 146’s.

Flybe will be operating three 733’s this Summer from Astraeus, these are… STRE, STRI and STRJ. They only have STRE at the moment and whilst they are waiting they are using a -700 STRH in full Astraeus which is based at BHX.
The airline is looking at both the A319 and the 737-700. If the 737 ops are successful this summer… expect an announcement for one of the types.

Those Thomsonfly 757 white engine cowlings will start to get mucky soon with reverse thrust. Not a good look.

Mark,
Some excellent shots – some of the best from you yet. 🙂
I remember visiting both of the Bristol airport’s myself last year – i was quite suprised how close you can get at Lulsgate – quite a pleasent airport to be at (I hoping to go back in June sometime).
At at Filton, your always garunteed to see something of interest there, as you found out. 🙂 I saw the first Air Madrid A330 when i was, taking off on its delivery flight, as well as a few stored 747’s (EAL and Korean) – Also a private 767, which, to this day i still haven’t managed to I.D.
Thanks for posting up the shots mark. 🙂

Flybe Fleet??
 Flybe Fleet??
Can anyone tell me what is happening at Flybe with the fleet? I have seen the 737, heard of Airbus A319s being leased and most recently heard of Embraer 170 models being ordered??
Can anyone shed any light onto this?
