Bristol Freighter Restoration Back to Life

Fans of the Bristol Freighter and Hercules engines may find this thread interesting on my forum, where it looks like we may soon have a Bristol Freighter running again at Omaka, New Zealand

Sorry for digging up such an old thread, but you asked for it:

The Bristol Freighter is now fuelled up and very nearly ready to run. Al has stated on the forum thread (his Big Bristol Diary) that he hopes to run the engines for the first time again this Friday. Fingers crossed. It will be a big day.

Bristol Freighters

I worked for the late great Freddy Laker back in 1960 maintaining Bristol Freighters ferrying cars from Southend to Rotterdam. The company was called “Channel Air Bridge”. Does anyone else remember those days?

Location

The first one is probably Whenuapai, and taken by my brother when on his CMT there.

The second one ws taken by me (I think) at Milson Aerodrome, now Palmerston North Airport.

The one shown here is on finals at Wellington Airport, NZ.

Great shots Jeff. They were really shiny in those days.

Is that Ohakea or Whenuapai?

Regarding the original topic, keep checking back on the thread on my forum, Al is making lots of progress on the Freighter at Omaka

This Freighter is an ex SAFE Air machine, not RNZAF.
