Bristol Scout replica – BBC 1 Midlands

Lunchtime news on BBC1 – ‘Midlands Today’

Anyone who can pick up BBC’s midland region there is a report running today (23rd Oct) of a replica Bristol Scout being built in Milson, Shropshire by two brothers David and Rick Bremner in honour of their grandfather who flew the type during WW1.

It looks almost ready to go with it’s rotary engine up front (“collected from New Zealand”) and there was mention of it flying in 2016.

I imagine the report will also be on the 6.30pm edition this evening.

Roger Smith.

Apparently the Scout made successful test flights from Bicester this evening. A huge ‘well done’ to all involved!

Well hope it all went off ok, it’s been a topping evening so I should think ideal conditions for the first flight. Look forward to seeing some pics.

That’s great, thanks for posting Ant.H. I went to a talk given by the one brother at Shobdon LAA strut evening and he gave a very interesting talk about it and slide show.

I hope nobody minds me dragging up a slightly old thread, but a couple of clips have been posted on YouTube of the Scout having engine runs carried out. It looks amazing!

Not sure that they do (Gnomes). Various other engines yes.
New-build Gnomes are in production by Classic Aero Machining Services at Omaka, where various classic/vintage-related businesses operate.

Thanks! Good to know!

The engine came from the USA and was overhauled by TVAL. That was on the bristolscout site but has since been removed. It arrived in the UK with the two BE2e’s at Old Warden.

This aircraft was exhibited, assembled [but] uncovered, at the LAA fly-in at Sywell this Summer. It’s a work of art!

And won the prize for Best Part Build Aircraft in the show.

No, the OW one is a static, unflyable mock-up
