This experimental filming is very engaging somehow, truly a ‘birds-eye’ view, and more intimate than helicopter shots would have allowed.
If only film makers could be persuaded to rely less on CGI and make use of this sort of technology

There would be scope to produce an enchanting production at Old Warden, for instance, floating in the sunlit twilight with the Boxkite and the other Edwardians as they drift past, really serene and atmospheric. I hope someone will be inspired :eagerness:
And then all the toggies will be moaning because they have a drone in their photos as well.

That sounds like a plan. I wonder how the CAA would deal with that idea?

Am I alone in picturing Ozplane flying alongside a drone, sliding his wing under it and tipping it, doodlebug-fashion? 🙂

An idiot can do all sorts of thing if they’ve got the money, but I didn’t see anything mentioned about cost in the previous posts

I can’t see what the cost of the equipment has to do with anything?
An idiot can still get hold of top end equipment!

I hope they had cleared this with the CAA before the filming as the authorities are taking actions against drone operators who break the rules and that’ll include those who co-operate with them.
A top level professional filem crew outfit will have CAA aproval and will be serious professionals, nothing to worry about there. It is the hobbyists with their £200 quadcopters that are the problem.
Some of the professional gear is very serious stuff.
The hobbyists are trying to clean up their act though. (It is the future)

So long as there was a 500′ separation between them, either horizontal or vertical there is no problem that I can see and also it was obviously consensual.

Pleasant though the pictures are, as a private pilot I would be a bit concerned at having a drone in close formation. Aren’t they restricted to a certain distance from an object anyway? Interesting that one crashed yesterday trying to deliver drugs/contraband INTO a prison.

Like a cross between a laptop computer and a modern mobile ‘phone. You can’t phone anyone on it, or type properly (as it doesn’t have a keyboard). The only bit of technology that it’s obviously superior to, in my view, is the Kindle. Still, people buy them, so they must be useful somehow…
You can phone people with it (we do, on a regular basis), and I use mine to write 3,000-word articles on. We also use ours to watch TV, access the Internet, download books and magazines to, and many other tasks. It has pretty much replaced paper magazines and books, and I use it in place of my regular PC for almost every task except photo processing.

Thank you TT. This technophobe is a now a little more educated !!! My mobile phone only deals with call and texts, no camera, oh yes, and you have to keep the sting tight too!!! Computer is an ancient tower system !!!

Thanks Seafuryfan. Now that is really smart! It’d be a great way of getting top views and unusual angles on aircraft in museums though I suspect one would get chucked out if they tried it 🙂
A monopod would probably be cheaper.

you can clip your iPad to the controls to watch the drone camera view.

You can make yourself look really silly by taking photographs with them as so many tourists try and do in London.

It must have been some really cool flying to get those close-ups of the pilot.
