…. is to be sung by the 75-year old Englebert Humperdinck – younger forumites, ask your grandparents about him – whatdya’ think, peoples ?
It might even work, he couldn’t do much worse than most of the recent plonkers the U.K. has chosen, could he ?
..or could he ?

So we have EH and the Russians are putting a up a band of grannies.
Somebody is having a laugh here at our expense.
Will someone please put this bad joke out of its misery and save us all a few quid.
Jedward are bad enough but this is just taking the p***. 😡

I really like our entry … I think it’s really relaxing and the ending when he belts it out – beats any of the musicians I listen to these days – apart from Adele of course … A lot of the videos on youtube where people make “my top 42 eurovision list” – the UK are in everyone’s top 12 … I’ve even seen it in a lot of places being in a lot of people’s top 3 … … personally I really like Spain’s entry but it’ll be overlooked …

The song ‘contest’ is…..wasteful…
I believe it makes a profit for the BBC. 😉

I think Nigel Farage and his rapping would go down pretty well 😀
(Back ground info- Nigel is the leader of UKIP, and about the only politician making a stand again the unelected socialist EU bulldozer crushing the life out of Europe)

The song ‘contest’ is a bogus, rigged, corrupt and wasteful as the appalling Europe ‘project’ which spawned it. Perhaps if we ignore it, it will go away.

“Wouldn’t kick her out of bed………….mind you, with that song…………….I wouldn’t wake her up, either………..”
:D:D:D
blo*dy hell they should re name it the “special ” song contest !!

Engelbert Humperdinck – is that truly the best we can do – well no, it isn’t so I think it might an ironic choice – someone with a sense of humour. EH wasn’t even a “great” in his heyday! What a bizarre choice.
Having said, we’ll still watch it – car crash TV at its best.
E.H. apparently has a huge following in eastern europe….. question is will it turn into votes ??
well andrew loyd webber is highly regarded and when his song was entered we went from U.K. NIL POINTS , to being fith
but will EH break through the political vote
i think satan would be wearing ice skates !!

The only truly fair way for this competition to be voted on would be if nobody knew what nationality the singer is or country they are representing. But obviously that would make it a talent competion and not Eurovision.
My wifes friend from Belarus votes every year on whatever song she likes(she not biased) and says as she comes from a country where votes are rigged its one way she can use her vote and it really be counted.

The reality is however that many countries vote politically…
How is the voting done in Eurovision these days (it’s been many years since I’ve been able to bear watching)?
When it was telephone voting Wogan used to be critical of countries ‘voting for their friends’ but I think he somewhat missed the point; for example the large number of votes for Russia that were made in Estonia, a country occupied forcibly by Russia for about sixty years! What he failed to appreciate was that about 20% of the Estonian population is of Russian extraction so voting in the contest was one of the few ways this (persecuted?) minority population could get back at Estonia.
I’ve often wondered how many of the ‘UK’ votes for Ireland are from the Irish living in the UK? It has been said that the phone-boxes just north of the border are very busy on Eurovision night! 😀

I think what Britons find frustrating is that in Europe, the UK is the source of most of the pop music from the last 50 years and yet cannot win a competition such as Eurovision. The reality is however that many countries vote politically and those that don’t such as the UK, France, Germany etc. find themselves sidelined.
I think the UK should do as Italy did and withdraw from the competition.

who actually decides our entry for eurovision??
Judging by our entries in the last decade, a blind, deaf and mute committee.

The best way for the UK to win is to have the following in our song:
– Cheesy pop song with simple English lyrics
– Some token phrases in German, French and one other language
– Praise for Britain integrating further into the EU failure and helping the other money sucking b*stards member states
– Some mention about how great the other EU countries are, and how much we like them
LOL!
BTW: It wouldn’t hurt apologizing for winning the war either.:D

Im not really a fan of Eurovision so could not give a rats bottom who we send to lose again. But sending EH as long as he is fit enough to sing is a pretty inspired choice. Look at the publicity its getting and the talking on the internet on forums just like this one. Its all free advertising for a Competition and a BBC show that a lot of people would not bother to watch otherwise. Anyone over 60 will watch for nostalgic reasons anyone under 60 will watch to see what somebody of 75 looks like singing, this is proper freak show stuff here 😀
Realistically the UK will never win it due to political voting etc and I think this is why we do not really enter a decent established act each year, I think because we put our hands in to our pocket to fund the thing we can not be thrown out before the final so we are assured a place in the final even if we send David Cameron and Nick Clegg singing “I got you babe”
Also winning it means you need host it and obviously that costs so its rather better to enter and lose than enter and win, other than losing is a very British tradition we are great at it:D

…I never thought we had sunk that low…
TBH, I’d prefer old Humpy over Jedward.
…Is this really the best we can do?
Can’t be any worse than some of our previous Eurovision entries.
Let’s just say “Scooch” and leave it there…:D
