Britains Greek Cypriot population not very happy

Just thought I’d advise you on this small incident. I was passing through Birminghams City Centre two days ago when I came upon a small demonstration by Greek Cypriots outside a government building calling for British action against the Turkish army in Northern Cyprus. Though small it did get a lot of attention from passing public. Banners with legends such as “BRITAIN IN, TURKEY OUT” and “THE GREEN LINE IS NOT OUR BORDER” were in abundance.
I plucked up the courage to speak to one of the demonstrators who was quite happy to fill me in on what the situation was with them. It seems that they want Britain to persuade Turkey to hand over Northern Cyprus to its rightful owners either by politics or “other means”.
I doubt “other means” could be taken to be military action or that if it did Britain would oblige, but you never know!
Has this demonstration come at some time of tension in Cyprus…or is it just a one off?

RE: Britains Greek Cypriot population not very happy

Both communities can live happily and respect eachother in the UK but they can’t even respect eachother in there own back yard!!….whats that about??.

The demonstration in birmingham and Trafalgar square drew the attention of thousands of people and yet there was no coverage on TV, Radio, and in the papers…now you know how important the Cyprus question is to western media and wesrtern politics!!.

The pain and suffering incurred on both sides of the divide is a travesty and us Greeks are willing to forget the past(however bad it is)and look to the future. The Turkish cypriot community and they are a “community” and not a state as they insist are simply unwilling to budge for recogntion for their puppet regime and they blame the international community for discarding them when they brought it on themselves.

regards
