Hi guys. I have just read in the press that the german parent group of Brittania have decide to give the airline a new make over. The Britannia tail fin will be replaced by a smiley icon on its tailfin and all of the other companies within the group ie Travel agents will display the same logo. This has now started the debate over removing British emblems from aircraft. I am sure you can all remeber the outcry from the public over BA’s decsion to remove the union jack. They have said that they will keep the head next to the britannia name on the side of the cabin.
What are your views on this. If you go to the address below you will see the new logo for the TUI group.

RE: Britannia
The 738s just went over to Scandinavia to another part of the company didn’t they?
Pembo…why don’t you ask T5 about JMC? lol. I think they’re good….
Regards
Ben

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-07-02 AT 11:37 AM (GMT)]To add a little more detail to my experience:
You always used to get a newspaper on BY – apparently no more.
Our flight attendants were stroppy; e.g. My wife’s headphones didn’t work so we asked for some more. The Stewardness bluntly replied, “well I may as well just be a headphone monitor today eh”.
The cabin interiors were shabby. The arm of the seat in front dropped off nearly a dozen times in the flight. (No exaggeration). They simply looked warn; I’m more referring to AH as this was far worse than AL.
The last time I flew with them – they really proved they were the best and were spotless!
Now Air 2000 (I last used them on a NCL-TFS route in 2000) and they were perfect. A chatty captain (always telling you what was going on and the science of it), great service and clean and tidy aircraft. Also free newspapapers.
Of course I only fly a couple of times a year so cannot really make a fully informed judgement, but, in the experiences I’ve had, Britannia didn’t appear to be as professional as they used to be.
I’m flying next on a JMC A330 later in the Autumn – looking forward to that. Anyone had an experience of JMC’s 330’s yet? Or their service generally? I’ve never flown JMC before though I did fly on an Airtours A330 last year – beautiful aircraft and surprisingly good service.

RE: Britannia
I flew BY on 762’s G-BYAA and G-BRIF in March and i thought they weren’t so bad – to be honest i think it’ll b the 762’s that go before the 752’s – and some of the 752’s are fairly new build so i can’t really see them going anywhere in the short-term

RE: Britannia
perhaps its worth remembering that these ‘smiley faces’ are actually the logo of TUI and in my own opinion, Britannia should keep their livery as it is now.
They could even try going back a step to their white fuselgae with red and blue pinstripes – the livery they used on the 737-200’s in the 80’s… they’re quite retro and kewl.

RE: Britannia
I agree that the Britannia livery needed updating and I can see why TUI have decided to paint both airlines in very similar colours, but the colours they have chosen are very very poor, horrible in fact!
I can’t see this going down at all well with many people.

RE: Britannia
I think it was high time that Britannia took this decision. There livery looks very outdatted. But putting smily faces…not a bright idea.

RE: Britannia
This new ‘uniform’ livery Britannia will share with Hapag-Lloyd disturbs me a little. Both said carriers will lose their individual identity and the new colours as a whole are quite poor. I agree that perhaps both airlines were in need of a new lick of paint, but going down this avenue of the blue ‘Korean Air’ style colours is not favoured.
I’m not the only one to be negative of this new image. Many people have voiced strong opinions and have been very critical of TUI.
You never know though. BA reversed it’s world images and is now paiting the whole of it’s fleet with the union flag image. Perhaps if public outcry is as strong as it was with the BA livery, then maybe TUI will reconsider. Personally, I doubt this will happen, especially after several million pounds has been spent developing the new identity.

RE: Britannia
An example of the new livery can be seen on Hapag Lloyd aircraft at www.airliners.net – a Boeing 737-800 has been painted already!
I am told that Britannias livery will be identical with exception of the red titles on the aircraft!!
Cheers,

RE: Britannia
I think it needed updating anyway, but i dont think it was neccessary to remove the british logo. Although Britania was actually Roman and therefore is Italian anyway. I think that the new BMI, with very subtle union jack, will be the way to go in the future.
Lets not forget that we are now becoming part of one big country ie Europe so national identity is becoming harder and harder anyway. Lets just stay out of the Euro and then concentrate on plastering union jacks everywhere we can!!
