Just watched this years British Airshow 2005 DVD. Sadly found it very poor and a sad decline from past years.
A very bias plug for IWM Duxford and £31 million worth of Airspace?……and a report from Septembers wash out. This coupled with Duxfords VE Day show, Flying legends plus Waddington and RIAT…as well as PARIS….. Since when has PARIS been a British Airshow.
Although the footage is generally excellent I just cant help but feel the presentation could be 100 times better!! What about the numerous excellent displays at Old Warden as well as shows from Elvington, Rougham, Little Gransden, Shoreham, Yeovilton and countless others.
It all stinks of lazy production and a few brown envelopes!

Of course Merlins over Malta was in… Malta… so if you don’t want Paris, you surely don’t want Malta…?
 Poetentially guilty of not making my point clear…The project was run from the UK though and featured ‘British’ based people and aeroplanes. Both aeroplanes do feature in the DVD.
Perhaps I ought to make me own DVD…..in the spirit of “What colours your Spitfire then!” 😀

I’ve not got the last two. I did get British Airshows 2003 whuch has a good selection of shows, Shuttleworth, Kemble, Waddington, Legends, Coventry, Biggin Hill, Blenheim Palace, RIAT, Jersey and a section on farewell to the LVG plus an extra disc on 100 years of powered flight.

Surely a DVD entitled British Airshows 2005 should be about airshows.
If it was called British Historic Aviation 2005 it would be a valid complaint – but it isn’t.
Point taken, in the DVD their is a rather good interview with a member of the team working on the restoration of the Blenheim. This is a nice behind the scenes look, surely a part of British Airshows? Its not just the physical display routine but a behind the scenes look would be good.

Thats good news then.
I just feel that the DVD should be a review of the years activities not just the airshow’s, maybe new restorations or particular success stories. For me Merlins Over Malta was a big thing to happen this year yet it gets no mention what so ever. These sort of stories deserve coverage.
Roll on 2006 🙂

Next year is going to see a few changes in the way aviation in the UK is covered on DVD and the Web, next years British Airshows will be a much broader production with many more featured shows.

Got to agree, in the late 90’s they used to feature around a dozen events and now there are just a few, but know doubt it will be in my prezzy pile at crimbo.
