so I agreed to go back for another week.

Not in a million years would I ever consider working for such a sham of a company.

Sorry, this may just be me being stupid here, but did you say you ARE going back to work for Aviance, but you don’t like how BA run things in the baggage area?

I haven’t flown with BA that much in the past. The first time I did, for a long time before that, was this New Years and so I wasn’t exactly surprised my bag hadn’t reached the destination – especially since I was connecting through Heathrow.

Well in fairness BA are definitey not the only airline to have rush bags, they all do and every airline pages passengers because their bags have misconnected, BA just do it on a totally stupid scale and its totally their own fault. Not in a million years would I ever consider working for such a sham of a company.

Have you ever seen Domestic Arrivals at NCL on a night 😮

there has to be 50+ Rush bags of the LHR, BA seems to be the only airline that has rush bags?

not even Intl flight have as many Rush Bags as the LHR, hell not even easyJet lose as many bags as BA, i guess thats why they have a Swissport Baggage desk in Domestic Reclaim.

every time the LHR comes in all you hear over the tannoy is “Can Passengers X & Y recently arrive of BA Flight xxx from London Heathrow Please report to the baggage desk”

I have never flown BA since the farce I experienced on a Heathrow/ Glasgow/ Benbecula flight almost 10 years ago.

I booked through a BA agent. Our flight pulled back 5 mins early from Heathrow but then spent over an hour and a half holding / taxying. In mid flight I pointed out to the purser that I was connecting with BA onto the Benbecula flight and was wondering if I would make it. Her downright shameful reply was ‘Everybody knows these flights leave Heathrow late. you should of booked on the earlier flight’!

Fortunately the ATP for the next leg was tech so I made the connection as it was delayed too. About 40 pax from LHR-GLA were connecting as well to BEB and were all non too happy.

Regards

Steve

Didn’t know you’d been working at EDI! I’m working with Menzies there, we could have met up. Glad you enjoyed it…. hmm :p
I heard of a rather embarressing incident last week where Aviance only had one sole member of staff to meet one of the nightstoppers (not sure if it was a LHR?), so it just sat there for some considerable length of time with no one attending to it.

Well BA rang me up last week asking me if I wanted to go and work for them for another week in EDI as they thought my performance the last time was great, so I agreed to go back for another week. 😮

Never in my life have I come across such incompitence from an airline and its managers not to mention their handling agent in EDI Aviance.

I had to walk off the job of the job on Friday and come home as I was irate and basically embarrased to have anything to do with them!

2 hours waiting for bags to be offloaed off flights and managers not even willing to put in an appearance! Diabolical.

My views on Ryanair have changed somewhat in the last week, Id rather fly with them anyday than even consider BA.

My son in law flew PHX-LHR-STR two weeks ago, two bags missing out of four. One arrived at the hotel over one day later and the other two days later. Two of the four bags which were brand new had been damaged. He is in the air at the moment, so we will see how much he loses on the return journey.

Well, the family arrived safely PHX, one bag didn’t.:D Nothing prejudicial about it, it was a different bag from the other missing two, so it gives them a chance to damage a third brand new bag.

Now that I have had time to reflect on my time in EDI it saddens me to see a brand like BA in such a mess 🙁

Thankfully where I work in DUB for World Wide Baggage we only look after BA from LGW I have still seen passengers with 10 hour connections arrive with no luggage!!!

The point about dispatchers is true we had the BA1464 delayed 4 hours the other night because there was no dispatcher. Thats somthing I would expect from a amateur company but not BA!!

NB If you HAVE to take things with you that won’t fit in UK hand luggage, advanced baggage forwarding is gaining in popularity this summer. FedEx have rates of about £150 to get bags out to the US if you have stuff that really needs to be there.

BA is sadly a mess at the moment. Despite having lots of options to spend my money and miles on flights over this summer I am just not going to. Bags WILL misconnect, and an hour delay is regarded as par for the course. Start complaining when you get to a 3 or 4 hour delay, anything less than that is just not worth bothering about.

Seriously folks, avoid BA over the summer. If you HAVE to fly them, make sure you don’t check a bag. Buy your stuff the other end if you can’t fit enough into a bag that conforms to UK hand luggage rules. It has got that bad. The strength of the pound is such that it makes more sense to carry your essentials with you, and buy the rest at your destination. Anything else is not worth worrying about getting lost in the bowels of Heathrow.

If you are connecting onto a BA flight over the summer, 2.5 hours really is your minimum connection time, any less than that and you are asking for trouble.

This might sound mildly hysterical, but anyone who flys BA regularly (like I do) will know I’m not spouting hyperbole. 🙁

The company are begging people from all over the airline to volunteer their own time to get bags moving, blaming recent disruption because of a gas leak near T4 and the recent security alert also in T4.

The simple fact is that in an effort to save money staffing levels in practically all operational areas have be cut to the point that the airline is grinding to a halt around us. Baggage is probably the most obvious area as it has the most obvious impact on the cutomer.

Whilst LHR is a nightmare to operate from, a lot of the delays are being caused by lack of dispatchers and gate teams as well as loaders and tug drivers.

These reductions in staffing levels are being made as part of the ‘Fit for 5’ programme under which manpower levels have for nearly 2 years been set at the levels needed once T5 is up and running, which are considerably lower than for the current 2 terminal operation.

By that time they’ll have pee’d off so many passengers, no-one will be flying with BA so T5 will work like a dream!

BA sure have problems with baggage at LHR. Last February, CNN showed a corridor at the airport with hundreds of missing bags.

My son in law flew PHX-LHR-STR two weeks ago, two bags missing out of four. One arrived at the hotel over one day later and the other two days later. Two of the four bags which were brand new had been damaged. He is in the air at the moment, so we will see how much he loses on the return journey.

There were 12 to 14 passengers at STR with missing luggage:D

Aviod row 11! try and get row 12 or 13 if you can, when we went to Funhcal last year with FCA dont know if there the same layout as GB but your seat dosnt recline on row 11 because of the exits behind you but if you get 12 /13 you get extra legroom on FCA not to sure on GB, but i love the A320 now, not as much as the 752!
