British Classics line up at Duxford

Like most of us here, I have seen some impressive line-ups, but this little collection at Duxford today is really quite unique.

Steve Kingham and I added an extra classic to the line!

And just a top view of the Grace Spitfire (because itโ€™s so nice!)

It sounds to me like they wanted to geth these movements done quickly hence the lack of advertisement. It is true though, they could have advertised it and charged the public a donation to walk the line and take piccies.

Some people are never satisfied. I can’t get to Duxford to see this all first hand but I certainly got very warm fuzzies just looking at the pics posted here.

A once in a lifetime shot – fan-bloody-tastic!

Roy.

I CAN get to Duxford.

What are the Public Relations Department at Duxford for if something like this is going to take place and it is Not advertised? It’s not as if they don’t have a web site or other outlets, like Forums, to make the information available.

I’m with Roy on this – I’d have wet myself if I’d seen it!

So, you think we should have seen an awesome ine-up of Avro aircraft instead of what was actually put out? What did YOU do last to please fellow aviation enthusiasts, and how unchuffed were they by YOUR efforts?

It wouldn’t surprise me at all, we don’t want to push anything relevent to aviation heretage do we, or anything the public would like to see.

mick

Now, I dislike flourescent erasers and annoying sound-effects filled plastic F-16s as much as the next man, but the moon on a stick? Who wouldn’t want that?

In seriousness, I really don’t think that (on balance) you can accuse Duxford of either not being relevant to aviation “heretage”, or of not showing the public what they want to see. There will always be things that can be improved, but there are more constructive ways to go about doing so than by sniping on internet message boards.

Keeping this relevant to the topic at hand, I think it goes without saying that the “public” are not, as a rule, Avro aficianados. A majority are clearly not aviation enthusiasts as such. They visit to be entertained, informed, inspired, in an area with which they have a passing familiarity at most. The enthusiast, as a repeat visitor, is important, but in the scheme of things it achieves very little in terms of income generation or even PR to actively try to “please” us as a stakeholder group. And yet I would argue that this is still done. This rollout is evidence of that.

I suppose I’m just a bit surprised that you aren’t even a little chuffed that this occurred, despite the (to you) obvious omissions.

Possibly so but it wouldn’t have been too hard to leave the TSR-2 where it had been and pop the Anson in the slot where the TSR-2 currently resides. I guess the Anson has to pass that area anyway. I just think it’s an opportunity missed. I guess the Shackleton isn’t up to towing anyway.

Great photos but what a pity they didn’t get the Shackleton and Anson organised as well and put them all on the “pan” outside the AirSpace or whatever it’s called this week. That would have been a real Avro gathering but I suppose that was expecting a bit too much.

I suspect that the team moving the aircraft into Airspace are quite busy hanging Mosquitoes etc and dont have time to waste on moving the Shack and Anson, they have a big job to do in a short time.

Hey Darren, don’t you know that I have copyright on the use of tractor top photo platforms at DX!!!! Nice to see you got a picture of Steve K actually smiling (rapidly retreats back into the shed) and more importantly Hi-Octain hard at it ๐Ÿ˜€ You must’ve been using a high shutter speed to capture his whirlwind of activity without any blurring ๐Ÿ™‚

Very nice Darren, never to be seen again out in the open like that.

IWM, an oppertunity missed.

(just kidding – nice, but overshadowed by awesome company!)

WOW – wish I’d seen that! I think that answers a few gripes in another thread very nicely!
