British heritage

Recently I’ve been scanning and retouching many of my old negatives. After a while it struck me, that so many of the aircraft I had photographed in the sixties and early seventies were of British origin. Herewith a few samples of those great designs of the past.

Thank you all for your kind responses. It’s very nice to discover that many on the Flypast Forum still enjoy seeing pictures from that era in aviation, especially since they were taken with relatively modest equipment. I started my training to become an air traffic controller in 1965, so I have very fond memories of that period.

I echo your sentiments there Rlangham. I wish that i could have had the experience of looking up to see a Victor refueling two Electric Lightnings, or a Gloster Javelin breaking from the pack to go it alone somewhere. But i have to say, recently the sight i’m missing the most is the sight of a Concorde majestically coming into land- looking so much like an swan coming to land on a shimmering river. Yet another one bites the dust, before being covered in it from here to eternity because of stupid, spiteful people who cant sence the greatness of being the only country IN THE WORLD with a supersonic airliner. That was our chance to be different; to be revolutionary. But no.

If you’re referring to the pictures, there isn’t a Javelin there. Just being picky! Still got my goat up about a pic in a monthly high profile mag labelling a 777 as an A330!

If you’re inferring you’d like to see a Jave irrespective of the pics, form a queue behind me for that one! 🙂

Some good memories here. I had some good times at Marham with the Victor fleet, only down side was sending of a tanker every time a Lightning started up at Binbrook. Operation Tansor I think it was called, when they went to intercept the Russian Bears over the sea.

Interesting to see the hay making going on right next to the runway!

Can’t see a tractor and bailer being allowed to operate at Heathrow these days?

What a great selection of photographs.
I remember the Channel Comets & I have worked on CL44’s & Belfasts, but I would have loved to have seen & heard the Viking & Ambassador in action.
