Hi All,
Why all the fuss he is not British, sounds like they want to make him the new Ronnie Biggs he was born in Pakistan came over here lived here for 40Yr’s then went back to see out his last days in his homeland. Released from prison, gets into problems with one of his tenants, goes on pilgrimage to Mecca obviously wasn’t that mentally retarded as he is apparently now ? Why the hell are we getting involved he is not British that is to say I think the death penalty is a bit harsh if his illness is true but shouldn’t different world organisations be asking for leniency not the British government ?
Geoff.

Nevertheless it makes for a suitably vibrant tabloid headline!!
Yes! But just the sort of ‘immigrant health-tourist pensioner’…
…that the Daily Fail would usually be recommending was ‘sent home’!!! We’ll see! 🙂

According to the BBC, which may or may not be correct, there is a moratorium, it has not been abolished. Nevertheless it makes for a suitably vibrant tabloid headline!!
From our occidental perspective, yes. But from their’s probably not.

Well, apparently, he seems to be suffering from a mental illness.
Pakistan abolished the death penalty in 2008 so the ‘death penalty’ sentence is misleading.
I basically agree with the ‘when in Rome’ philosophy but it seems absolutely incredible to me that people can even consider that such a crime, and such a serious crime, as ‘blasphemy’ even exists in 2014.

Good to know how tolerant a society we are here.
When in Rome has always been my motto – if he had lived there for several years, as quoted, then he would surely have been aware of the laws. If you break the laws of the country you chose to visit or live in you will pay the price.
