British Registered Bell Hueys (205)

Could well be that it is the same machine. Failed to find mention of the German machine on a quick search of the forum I think I have seen it mentioned on. May have been a few more years ago than I originally thought – which would fit with Alan Clark’s post.

G-UHGB was previously on the German registry, and it is a regular in the Peak District doing lifting work for the National Park.

There are reports each summer for a few years now of a German registered Bell used in the UK for lifting supplies to conservation projects rebuilding eroded mountain pathways.

204-Non in UK. The last UK owned example was a Bermudan reg Bristow Helicopters AB204 back in the 80’s

Yes, the short bodies are used for logging and fire fighting…I see them around here a great deal in the summer, but I was asking about the UK uses of 204/205s in general.

Logging/Lift Hueys are usually the shorter B models with 1900hp Cobra engines. They’re real hot rods.

Besides display flying, what are they used for in the UK?
External lift is the only thing that comes to mind.

I wouldn’t think there is much call in the UK for their common uses in North America, namely fire fighting and logging…plus some military surplus machines used for search and rescue by law enforcement agencies.

G-UH1H (#509) was with the 129th in Vietnam. There appears to be more surviving Hueys (70+) from that unit than any other.

The Bell 205 is the civil certified variant of the military Bell UH-1D or H model.
B205A-1 G-UHGB of Heli-Lift services, is the only flying 205 on the UK register.
UH-1H’s G-HUEY and G-UHIH are the only flying UH-1’s on the UK register.
