Bronco crash at Kemble – 10th July

A bit sketchy on details yet ,but it looks like a Rockwell Bronco failed to pull out of a manouver, hitting the ground near the tower, huge fireball but it looks like this might have been the drop tank underneath ,looks like pilot is being tended to by emergency services, plane or front end on its side, praying all is ok πŸ™

I should have updated this beforehand so please accept my apologies firstly. I’ve been keeping in touch with Tony a lot recently, and this return trip to Kemble has been in the planning for a while now. We’re holding a combined GA fly-in the same weekend as he returns, making it a memorable weekend…. Kemble has a special significance with Tony even before last year’s unfortunate incident, as he was onboard flightcrew on the Britannia’s last ever flight into Kemble – making this an extra special weekend for those who currently look after her at Kemble.
The entire weekend is open to the public – it’s not an airshow, but there’s sure to be lots going on including late openings of AV8 too. I know Tony would really like to meet anyone who wants to come along – and we as the Events Team are pulling out all the stops to make his trip worthwhile. He is bringing the Demo Team members with him, plus his show stand etc – so if anyone wants to meet him – June 15th/16th is the time to show your support for him personally πŸ™‚

Latest update concerning Tony’s recovery πŸ™‚

I’ve been keeping in touch with Sonja and saw that she posted this latest news tonight on the Bronco facebook page, which is definitely worth sharing!!!!

I am still in awe of how strong a will can be and feel humble for the wonder of life…

Visited Tony Friday evening and got following update on his progress:
1. Every day he is sitting in his chair, sometimes even for 6 hours
2. He has been for a stroll down the hall (supported by only 2 nurses!)
3. His room has free entry now and no more protective gear needs to be worn
4. He is looking great and gained some weight
5. Since this week his computer is with him
6. He asked –and got- his computer
7. And he said he wanted to go home and sleep in his own bed πŸ˜€

After every visit I am amazed on how well he is doing, on how his body is taking up the pace of normal live again and on how my brother is a fighter.

Dear friends, I will be taking a short vacation and leave Tony in the caring hands of Edith, Lynn, Thomas, Ruth and my mum.
As Tony is progressing very well I think that this will probably be the last time I am posting an update πŸ™
Next message that will appear here will surely be typed by β€˜The Man’ himself.

Take care,
Sonja

It is great news indeed – I heard it looked likely a few days ago but had to keep quiet etc…. I have to say it has been really encouraging having all the PM’d messages to pass on to Sonja which I have been doing every day since my post regarding that…. Tony has been receiving huge support from the aviation community as a whole, and not just here in the UK I might add…. Thank you to all who wished him well in those messages – they will continue to be passed on directly to Sonja until such time as she asks not to, as the bigger the recovery diary is, the more obvious the support is that he will read eventually πŸ˜€

There’s obviously still a way to go before a return to flight can be considered, but I can just imagine the scene now when that happens – heartwarming stuff eh πŸ˜‰

Once again – thank you from me for the messages to be passed on

“12.28z EBBR/BRU Abelag tarmac. Touch down of OO-LAC with 1 precious cargo on board….. Tony De Bruyn

Dear friends, as of this afternoon Tony is back home!!!! His very first flight in 2 months :-).

He is recovering very well but still needs your positive thoughts and wishes as the road to recovery is still not at its end…
Unfortunatelly he is still not allowed any visitors, beside his close family, but I am making sure that I pass on all your messages.

To all of you I want to express my personal thanks for keeping Tony in your thoughts.

Kind regards,
Sonja

Tony’s sister has a wonderful idea which needs your help!

Speaking to Sonja recently, she has had a wonderful idea to do a ‘recovery diary’ for Tony to read once he is able to, to show him how much support he has been receiving here in the UK. I have offered to collate any input and pass it on to her so she can print messages off.. So this is the chance for anyone who wishes to send a personal message to Tony to be included in the diary.
I hope Sonja gets a load to add in, judging from the massive support already shown on various forums which I’ve seen?

If anyone wishes to pass their messages on – please send them to me via PM and they WILL get passed on to Sonja. By all means include your real name etc, not just forum ID – especially if you’ve met Tony at a show etc as he may remember you!

Hopefully I will be meeting her next weekend as she is making a trip to the UK to visit Tony so I will soon find out how he’s recovering too…

I’m in touch privately with Tony’s sister Sonja with updates on his progress, as sadly she had to refrain from making public updates via facebook etc due to business issues.
Just to update this thread – Tony is making good progress, and if anyone wants to know more then please ask me via PM as I don’t want to ruffle feathers posting details on here. I’m away for a week doing the Best Of British show at Kemble from tomorrow, but will answer anyone when I can.
