Did you get any shots of the Vanguard/Merchantman by any chance?I caught a fleeting glimpse of it through the trees from a train a few weeks ago and she looked to be in good shape-any ideas how often they do engine runs??

N2980 — Vickers Wellington.

Recovered from the bed of Loch Ness in Scotland. On New Year’s eve in 1940, this Wellington was caught in a snow storm and one engine cut. The captain saved all but one of the crew – sadly the rear gunner’s parachute failed to open and he was killed. The aircraft, used during the first bombing raid on Germany in 1939, was recovered from the lake in September 1985

The nose section of XT575.

This Viscount was contructed at Brooklands back in 1960 and went into operation with Austrain airlines (OE-LAG). It was later purchased by the Royal Aircraft Establishment, and used for test flying at RAE Bedford and Pershore. Its final task was to perform flight trials for underwater seach radar equipment installed with a large bulbous radome beneath the forward fuselage.

It was sold for spare at auction in 1993 and the rest of the airframe was scrapped.

After Storage and some restoration this 25ft long section was donated to Brooklands in 1996.
