Melvyn,at the risk of this post not being read as it is at the bottom of the pile!Firstly well done to you and everybody involved in the show from the pictures posted( thanks guys!) it looked a great day out.
Do you know if there will be a dvd of the show as it would be great to see and hear those old cars getting a run and of course some fantastic aircraft as well!
Thanks Alan.

Well, without any trace of false modesty (as that is REALLY not my style) there were a lot of people other than me putting in far more work. This only happened because the Dunsfold Park people fully supported the event and were prepared to do it properly and to trust the Brooklands team who, especially Julian, excelled themselves and that also goes for each of the volunteers that turned up. We had far too little time really as we only really got started in February and it was tough going but we were pleased with the result and we have had good feedback from Dunsfold too.

It is too early to say what and if anything is happening next year but if it does you will hear on the forum early. We have to have some wrap up meetings to discuss what happened and the bottom line is “did we make money?” it was for charity after all.

As for DVD, we had no official coverage and no budget to undertake it. Shame but true.

Hi chaps,

With regard to getting out. This is something that is almost a ‘no win’ situation. Sooner of later everyone has to come down to a single file and it would be nice to open up more gates (more goundwork = expense and more manning to get people in) or trust that people would filter in a little more effectively. I have to say that whilst I would never claim we got everything 100% right we did pretty well with the resources we had and at least some fo the blame must go to the people that inevitably have to push in that little bit further up the road. This is just the same as when you get a lane closure on a UK motorway – you get a jam. Have the same thing in France and they filter! However this will get looked at.

As I remember Dunsfold is 25/07 (only landed there twice in the last few weeks – did I pay attention?) and the crowd was mostly on the south so it should have been better than a lot of, for example, RAF stations where the crowd are usually by the hangers which face south. Looking straight into the sun.

With regard to commentary, this is another area where you are guaranteed to annoy someone. We made a point of keeping quiet for a large number of passes yet I still heard of someone that complained that we were always talking over the flypasts. Everyone should remember that we are not just there to spout facts and figures but we are there to give some background to the general public as well as the enthusiast. The enthusiast might be bored rigid by hearing that P7350 still had bullet patches in the wing but there would have been literally hundreds of people there that did not know. It is also important not to sound like you are lecturing and to give an overview. All I ask is that people remember that the gobs-on-sticks are there for the layman, the kids and the people that otherwise might be at home trying to close the airfield. If we have to make them laugh to make them listen and to make them realise that an aifield is important then we shall do it. If you want a quiet area then we could easily have one area of the crowd line without speakers. Actually thinking about it, we did have for a while in the morning as three speakers stopped working and we could tell exactly where as there was no crowd there.

I don’t know what the crowd numbers were. The Dunsfold Park people took a big risk on this and I sincerely hope it was worthwhile. I have heard that everyone was happy with the day and we will be meeting soon to debrief.

Incidentally, I had a call from Stuart Goldspink today to say that he enjoyed it and with some suggestions for next time. I thought he flew very well and he told me he thought Paul Ambrose flew a good show in the Pitts.

I will also add that the Dukes of Brabant B-25 was a very late cancellation through no fault of theirs and we did try to get the Swiss B-25 with just four days notice. They would not have been able to get their DA and stuff done in the time and were due to be crew training on the Thursday and Friday before. Top marks for them for putting some effort into trying to make it there for us.

We also lost the Tiger Moth and Gipsy Moth and had planned to have the MIles Speed Six but that was suffering too. We also wanted the Hawker Nimrod but this is limited by crosswinds and we simply did not have enough grass.

Thanks to all that came and hopefully we will be back next year.

Thanks Sea Fury fan, as far as the light goes Dunsfold is pretty good. I haven’t checked but I guess the display line was on running East to West Line. Perhaps Melvyn can clarify the line of the runway.

That is a shame but hopefully it is also an indication of the numbers we got through the gate!
.

Looked like they had quite a good crowd, especially for a Saturday… also seemed to be a lot of ‘Joe public’ which has got to be a good thing.. lets hope it happens again next year.. Neil.

Great photos, thanks for sharing 🙂

Septic (or anyone), how does the light work for the cameraman at Dunsfold? It dosn’t look as if you’re shooting into sun as much as you have to at Duxford…

I realise of course it can depend on where you position yourself, but I was thinking of Joe Average on the crowdline.

Thanks Anna, Darren.

You missed a damm fine show.

As far as the Hurricane shot goes, I’ve not cropped it that much, Nick Grey and the MK IV was just in the right place at the right time. Here’s the original. Plus another un cropped shot with the Hurri coming from the opposite direction

Melvyn, do you know how many attended yet. As far as getting out was concerned, I was parked the among the old straw bales that led up to Military aircraft park, on leaving I was initially directed to a five car wide stream of traffic that eventually became a single stream, hence the congestion, and then to compound the problem the people who were directing traffic suddenly disappeared.

Thanks Mike,

I really enjoyed the day at Dunsfold, although getting out proved rather difficult.

That is a shame but hopefully it is also an indication of the numbers we got through the gate! I had an email from Mike Crutch yesterday, who was handling the radio, and he said “several records were broken including the Dunsfold aircraft departure rate (28 aircraft in 29 minutes, including four that needed to backtrack!)”. They worked very well, perhaps next time we get them on traffic too!

Do you know if the Bucker Bestman is the Glenn Lacey aircraft. It was also good to see Aces High out and about again.

Septic.

That was Glenn Lacey’s according to the booking blurbs I saw.

Thanks Niall,

Or should I say thanks to Nick Grey in the TFC Hurricane for putting on a such a spirited display in the Mk IV.

Thanks Triumph1.

I thought it was given the codes on the fuselage, but didn’t know for certain. So was this its debut event.

Hi Septic,

Yes, the Bucker Bestmann belongs to Glenn Lacey. Here are some of my pics.

Thanks Rlangham, although the Railton was imaculately presented at Dunsfold, the Bentley driver had the balls to let the Napier Lion off its leash.

Septic.

whenever I’ve seen the Bentley in action its always been driven in a ‘spirited’ manner! Silverstone before they messed around with Woodcote corner springs to mind..
but you cant fault the finish on the Railton – almost looks like the work of the forum polishing team..!
