The front nose section and the rear tail assembly of Concorde 202 G-BBDG arrived at Brooklands this afternoon by road from Bristol Filton via the M4 and M25. They arrived on two lorries at 1650. The aircraft last flew on Christmas Eve 1981 and has been in store and used a source of spares by British Airways. One more section is still to arrive in a few weeks, this being the centre fuselage section and wing stubs.
Plenty more pictures if anybody wants to see more.

No, no, no.
Why did every girl I met in my early twenties say this?
I wasn’t dealing with reality!
Why the hell should you. I NEVER do.

Concorde was effectively killed when it was anounced that supersonic flights over land were to be banned. When the plane was launched in 1962 no such bans existed. In one fell swoop almost half the aircraft’s potential customers found that they would not be able to operate them effectively.
I’m afarid as a pure commercial exercise, Concorde was doomed from that point.

No, no, no.
What I meant was IF it had been launched in the 80s, then lots might have been sold, to lots of airlines, and it would then have been a profitable a/c for the manufacturers, as well as to operate…
I wasn’t dealing with reality!

one of the most profitable and unarguably most elegant aircraft ever…
😀
However, it is easier to be profitable when your capital outlay is virtualy nothing after the government steps in to wipe off the development costs!
Elegant and technically excellent (certainly for its time) it most definitely was.
Retired too early?
definitely.

It is an amazing livery list.
Part of the fascination of Concorde is the ‘What if’ aspect –
What if it had be launched in the early eighties? Most of those airlines would probably have taken up their options, and we’d have a sky criss crossed with one of the most profitable and unarguably most elegant aircraft ever…
EasyJet. Hmmm. That would look – Orange. 😀

No one placed firm orders Concordes except for BOAC and Air France. All the other airlines placed easily cancelled options.
For the record, BA was formed in April 1974 with the merger of the following airlines:
BEA
BEA Scottish Division
BEA Channel Islands Division
BEA Helicopters
BEA Airtours
BOAC
Cambrian Airways
Northeast Airways (formerly BKS)
A number of other engineering, marketing and holiday divisions were also incorporated into the merger.
The legal ball was set rolling in 1972 but it took two years for all the various components to be prepared for the official launch of the new airline.

Interesting liveries,
couldn’t find the Easyjet one though 😮

wasn’t BA formed from BOAC and BEA or soemthing?
Correct. Two big state-owned airlines were merged to create an even bigger state-owned airline. Imagine the amount of paperwork they could create that way! 😀

Indeed no Virgin colours for this aircraft, but the historically correct BA scheme. Which will make it the only ex-BA Concorde that will not carry the Chatham Dockyard colours.

The aeroplane is actually still owned by BA and so has to stay in a BA Scheme. The 1974 scheme is the perfect choice.
Apart from Virgin . . . .

I have heard that the long term plan for the repaint of G-BBDG is to be in the original British Airways colours with a calibartion checker board on the side as it appeared at Farnborough in 1976 which is the last time I saw this aicraft before this week. (28 years ago)
My own personal opinion is that I think this is the correct choice of colour scheme as it never did wear the UNion Flag or Landor colours of BA.
Any other opinions ?

Anyone heard any rumours of what paint scheme has been planned for
G-BBDG?

She seems to be have treated better for her transportation than the Scottish one…

Or indeed one of the 20 or so airlines that placed orders and withdrew? The list is amazing.
From QANTAS to Air Canada (sorry, personal preferences showing) the the colours are here
Cheers
