Poor thing. The prognosis is not good for that one 🙁

Thanks Mike -I was thinking of the machine that went Hemswell-Booker and now Texas with Chris Miller.

Both Tempests are still in the UK, with the same owner. There are two other examples in Texas, both currently undergoing restoration.

There were two Tempest II’s -both headed to Gerry Cooper at Hemswell and laterly one is now at North Weald. The other machine is probably the example down in Texas.

When I visited back in the early 90’s the Hurricane was just completed and waiting to be partially dismantled and taken away for reassembly and it’s first test flight. Next to it was a Typhoon or Tempest that work had just begun on (I can’t remember which and my photo’s are packed away in the loft so can’t do a quick check). There was also a Gazelle helicopter, a collection of pristine British cars, Morris 1000, various marks of Cortinas and Escorts, Morris Marina, Bentley, TR6 etc. on the other side of the workshop were over 100 British motor bikes dating back to the early 1900’s, all of them immaculate and in running order. Fantastic collection, such a shame it all had to go.

Didn’t he have a Typhoon or Tempest there as well?

IIRC the hurricane in the picture at Farnborough also had a little for sale sign on at the time

Hmmmm, aren’t the majority of them.

Yes but this one seems worse in some respects because of the assurances given about what would happen or not during the display. 🙁

Not good reading and totally avoidable.

I see that it was painted as the second of Gleeds cats. The Figaro was used on two Hurricanes and then one Spitfire.

Both Hurricane doors and the cat cut from the Spitfire are in the museum collection. The Swastika gets increasingly frayed with each iteration.
