On Wednesday 11 May the Brooklands Concorde G-BBDG was turned round to now face into the prevailling wind. The task was undertaken by a team from BA Engineering, ably assisted by Brooklands volunteers. Eventually Delta Golf will be positioned in front of the others on the aircraft park. This aircraft is now the only production standard Concorde open to the public in the south east since the Filton one was removed from the viewing site.
The Concorde simulator remains in the building adjacent to the airframe and can actually be ‘flown’, it you pay the fee. Always busy on operational days so booking early is recommended.

I am surprised the Concorde simulator is flyable. When one of my former colleagues at Linlk-Miles saw the sim two or three years ago, he reported that a chainsaw had been used to separate the cockpit wiring from the computer.
Someone must have done a terrific job of rewiring the sim assuming that the wiring/coding lists had all the updates incorporated.
When BA decided to dispose of the simulator there were no takers at their asking price, but it still had to leave the building at Filton as, I believe, it was being demolished. There was little option to ‘separating’ the cockpit from the instructor section in the time scale other than by cutting the wiring.
Some two years of work by volunteers at Brooklands and, I think, Surrey University, has resulted in the re-activation of all the sytems, albeit without the complex movement system. The ‘wrap-around’ screen does make the flying very realistic. See: http://www.brooklandsconcorde.com/moreinfo.html

Concorde will be moved (in a few weeks) from where it is now, to a position along side the VC10. The gravel area under it will be tarmaced first. 🙁

Anyone know if the “Promotional” video that’s shown on the Brooklands Concorde Experience available anywhere, a great few minutes of movie, and almost a tear jerker for anyone.
Nearest I’ve found is this which someone’s recorded and put on Youtube.
Music – Queen of course.

………….I believe Brooklands Museum has initiated plans to get all the aircraft on the Vickers Aircraft Park under a cover and, if successful, to include the Vimy……..
I saw initial plans for this building a few years ago (pre-Vimy and Concorde) and, I think, was to hold all the Vickers post-war types – Viking, Varsity, Viscount, Vanguard and VC10. Add the Vimy and Concorde (plus the Wellington?) and what a line up that would be.

I popped into Brooklands this morning and Delta Golf looks better the way it is now. No pics, sorry, I didn’t take my camera.

Brooklands Concorde turnaround
Hi Peter Moderator
I believe Brooklands Museum has initiated plans to get all the aircraft on the Vickers Aircraft Park under a cover and, if successful, to include the Vimy.
Whilst they still work on the ‘Wellington’ Hangar project this new venture will be a major undertaking and they will, no doubt, be after our money to help fund it. There are few places where a museum is on a car and aviation site over 100 years old and still keeps many of their exhibits live. And in the summer the London Bus Museum will open there with more active vehicles.
See some of the cars perform at the ‘Double Twelve’ event 18/19 June and then plan to be at the ‘Wings & Wheels’ show at Dunsfold 28/29 August when aviation, cars and motorcycles can all be seen in action.

Concorde move Brooklands
Hung about till 1630 and they put the nose back on :). I was a bit surprised the Viking had been put outside but I guess its more water-resistant than the Vimy in the hangar

Looks very nice, especially in those colours, has it had a recent repaint or is it regularly kept very clean?

Good to see her moved around into the wind. Much better on the aircraft. Would be nice to see her get some form of cover over her eventually…

Ah, I have been under the misapprehension that it was Duxfords’ first post-war cupola, the current one in use coming from RAF Nuneaton.
Thanks for correction.

Duxford towers’ old VCR cupola can be seen in the second shot to the left.
From Booker isnt it?

Nice pictures thanks for sharing, it is nice that at least one of the Concordes is preserved in what I would regard as the classic BA colours.
