The main runway at Brooklands isn’t there anymore. There is a small strip, but AFAIK it was only used once, to get the Vimy replica to the museum (and by a Piper Cub a couple of weeks prior to that, it was the same pilot, he wanted to familiarise himself with the strip). See this video:

As for the Vanguard, the engines haven’t been run much lately due to some starter problems, but the intention is to have them running again in the near future.

Edit: I thought we had a topic on this not too long ago, but I cannot find it anymore. The search only turns up stuff from 2005 and before. Tech issues perhaps?

We went to do some work on the VC 10 not long after it arrived which included coating it with some stuff to preserve the paint etc, we took a search with us so we could get up the **** end… we also took them a full set of blanks, one of my endearing memories was caning a RAF Sherpa minibus round the remaining Section of banked track with a bunch of us in the back leaning over one side to prevent it tipping over LOL….. Still have the societies 3rd newsletter somewhere..

Anyone know if any part of the Runway remains at Brooklands for active use?

I have landed there (in a PA28, no heroics required) but this would have been in 1995-7.

At the time we used to use Brooklands for driving events and what was left of the main was not in bad condition. But when MB started to expand their operation the runway was closed, though there was talk of a grass strip being laid to partially replace it and allow GA fly-in visits

Probably was Dai

The only other thing I remember about the sim was on the instructors panel, in a section that controlled ‘turbulence’, there was a knob with settings: light … medium … heavy … improbable … impossible!!

Great video. Never realised what a close thing that landing was.

and had the use of the sim, I went along had a go and did a couple of poor circuits on the sim.. Often wonder where the sim went, it was a cracking thing, even though it was fixed.

Is that the one with the belt-driven runway visuals? At takeoff rotation, the ‘runway’ dropped out of view and one was ‘flying’. Had a go on something similar in the late 70’s at Heston.
