I kid you not:

I stand corrected.
It always surprises me how old this weapon is; it still looks modern today and it’s virtually unchanged in a hundred years.
I’d say that it is probably true in the UK the counties with the highest percentage of shotgun ownership also have the lowest crime rates but that’s probably due to the fact that they are mostly rural with correspondingly low crime rates…
…rather than bands of vigilante shotgun-owners patrolling the streets! 😀
What is it that they say? There are lies, damn-lies and statistics!
Incidentally I think the people who is most likely to die by the gun of a gun-owner in the US are the gun-owner (about half gun-deaths in the US are suicides), the gun-owner’s husband, wife or partner, or the gun-owner’s children!
Yep and if you are careful about selecting your ‘facts’ properly you can make statistics support any point of view as in my point about the anti-gun lobbyists and their 15% thing.
The Colt 1911 not only continues to look modern but is so good it has been manufactured by many companies and copied by even more. I can think of at least 3 companies other than Colt in the US. Then you have some company in Argentina plus Star and Astra in Spain plus noe end of patent infringements by other countries where blatant copies are produced. I guess the reason it is still so popular is that it is a one shot stopper., get hit with one of those things and you swiftly lose interest in the fight.

Pfft, poseurs. Mozambique has an AK-47 on their freaking flag. And of course in Egypt you’ll find this:

or the gun-owner’s children!
Suicide by shooting is often the choice of American teens, and tends to be 100% effective.

There were times that I had to lock the aspirins away, when my daughter was a depressed teenager.
You could argue that she could just have bought herself some, but suicide by drug overdose is often a cry for help and can be survivable.
Guns don’t offer a second chance.

Oh, another point is that it is not a Browning pistol. Browning was working for Colt at the time and designed the pistol. At the same time he also patented the lock up system between barrel and slide but the pistol itself is correctly a Colt M1911 or Colt Government pistol.
I stand corrected.

The unusual point raised in the same report is that the states with the highest private gun ownership are the states with the lowest crime rates. Of course there are one or two states that defy this pattern but mostly true.

Funny how no-one ever seems to mention the “well-ordered militia” bit, isn’t it?
Well, if you don’t want a discussion on any given subject, then don’t raise it in the first place.
Thanks :p
And that’s exactly why I didn’t want any replies,, because that’s one subject, I could go, pardon the pun, “Ballistic” on. I had a great deal to do with Firearms and Shotguns prior to and after Dunblane. And by the way, it’s rude for a man in your “Position” to stick his tongue out, thats should be left for the lower ranks.:p

Having said that, it is part of their Constitution to bear arms…

And I don’t want to hear the Bleeding Hearts Brigade defending the Criminals in my given scenario thanks.

As was once pointed out by the head of some US police department (I’m afraid I can’t remember which PD or year) if you outlaw guns only the outlaws willl have guns and this coutry is proof of that since the blanket ban on handguns. The unusual point raised in the same report is that the states with the highest private gun ownership are the states with the lowest crime rates. Of course there are one or two states that defy this pattern but mostly true.
The Anti – Gun lobbyists made a big fuss about the fact that 15% of all violent crimes involve firearms. Fine but what about the 85% of violent crime which doesn’t involve firearms?

Knowing a little re Firearms, I think it;s like the old saying, using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Having said that, it is part of their Constitution to bear arms, and I rather like the U.S.As idea, if you find a burglar etc in your house, you have the right to shoot him/her.
In this country, given the same circumstances you can only use as much force as necessary. But who determins the level of force in this country, a 30 yrs old wouldnt probably need to use as much force against say an 18 or 28 yrs old, but what about elderly folk who are more often attacked,, how would you expect them to defend themselves against the same 18 or 28 yrs old?.
Personaly, I would shoot them!! if I didn’t invite them into my house, then they, suffer the consequences.
And I don’t want to hear the Bleeding Hearts Brigade defending the Criminals in my given scenario thanks.

That is seriously weird 😮
If you click on the link that says law there are other state things, including the state folk dance, and the state song, imaginatively named ” Utah, this is the place “.
I’ll be passing through Utah in May so I must keep an eye out to see how many people are proudly carrying the state fire-arm.
Those Yanks are really organised. Utah’s even got its own state cooking pot 😀
