No brakes, no steering, but we have motive power (and officially the ‘ardest aircraft tug on the block)
See the story of the restoration, from a barn find in Normandy to today on our forum –

taxi race
I like the idea of a race down the runway martin, at last, something our Jet Provost has a fighting chance against!!!!! And I can just see Adrian, poping over with the machine gun fitted, asking politly if he can borrow something, whilst looking at us through the sights!!! Never a dull moment at Bruntingthorpe!!!!!!!!!
It will do 50mph.
still up for it?

steering
Excellent stuff! I’ve always wondered – does the steerable front motorbike wheel actually have any effect?!
the front wheel can steer but only very shallow turns. trying to turn 1.25 metric ton with it is not easy.
there are bars from the forks which pass through the front part of the hull and actuate levers which are in turn attached to drum brakes on the differential, thus when the handlebars are turned one of the track is braked thus turning the vehicle.
the front wheel also acts as a buffer when going up or down slopes or ditches
it is quite possible to drive it without the front wheel
cheers

Saw the Kettenkrad the other weekend when at Brunty. Went over to the hanger with Ritch & Max and was allowed have a look around. Looks very nice as do the aircraft in the hanger.
When you gonna race it down the runway with the Jets as the BMW always does on the open days? :diablo:
