From yesterday

Victor

the rub down for the repaint has begun and there are numerous panels removed and stored for painting

Iskra

there was initial trouble starting this one up last week could not find out if they managed it in the end

JP’s

Both JP’s are in the hanger for partial re-paints and maintenance, Nev’s started being rubbed down whilst the other one was having it’s main leg shocks sorted and the wheels and brakes stripped down, the wheels covers are looking a bit cracked and perished and clive assures me that they are getting replaced for newer ones

Vixen

Inverters are firing up now, the nav light issue is still outstanding as the port positive feed appears to have a break somewhere in the outer wing and short of opening every panel we might be looking at new wiring running externally for part of the way, the nose leg is stripped down at bournemouth and the external tanks are mid paint we are just sorting out mounting assy’s for them
the full paint is now down to outer wing panels finishing the port outer boom and a few smaller areas such as the tailplane trailing edge
one more stad has also been repainted and there are a number of power sets in the back of the hanger hopefully being sorted out for the summer running season

Bucc’s

894 was running on external AC power outside and was still blinking in the distance when i left, guy was trying to get the “strike sight” working

544 engine looks essentially complete and the casing is all on it remains in the vertical and possibly just needs a route back out of the hanger

I’m affraid it’s going to be the same i think although i might be wrong

If more people were to stump up some reddies for an aircraft colour change (aka the preserved steam movement) then other paint jobs might be possible but alas nobody has offered

would be nice, but a royal pain in the butt to keep clean!

i think a White underside and camoflage upper would be best 🙂

i’m going to speak to the owner this week about using the paint left over from 494 to sort it out externally with 494 being live more than before, then this should be the cockpit to exhibit when 494 is out on the end of the runway

we’ll have to see if we can sort it out as the trailer it’s on is not stable

were looking at an exit date of around the end of march at the latest

i believe the hanger is to be re-leased to another non-aviation related business, but it’s a long term contract and you can’t blame the walton family from taking on a gauranteed income stream in this economic climate

hence the reason everyone is attending to long term paint restoration for the coming winters ahead outside and anything else that is unpleasent outside like the sea vixen nose leg overhaul

Are these aircraft inside for good now, or is this just a temporary thing?

It looks like it may have been rubbed down ready for respraying? Just as a ballpark figure how much does it cost in paint to cover an aircraft the size of the Victor?

Dave walton would have the figures but i think it’s been in storage ready for this repaint for a while, yeas the side view of the victor nose show the rub down as far as i know the main fuselage is done and most of the right wing top surface but obviously no paint till the rub down is completed

news on the iskra is that it too is for a repaint, colour undecided yet but more than likely silver

as for the vixen started lining out the top panel only takes about an hour to mask off and then the other “royal navy” on which was at least another hour

only 3 sets of top panels to line out now aaarrgghhh

Colin,

Any leads on a new nosewheel rim would be handy! The old one with the perished tyre is very reluctant to let the tyre go to be replaced with the old stock new one we have – any handy gen would be welcomed!

Cheers

Wish I lived closer as I would be helping with the JP as I did 8 years on those beasts.
