Bruntingthorpe Open Days

Rather than bump an old thread back up I thought I’d start a new one.

Apparently there are no open days planned for 2005, but someone on the Cold War Jets website (http://www.coldwarjets.co.uk/) suggested writing to enquiries@bruntingthorpe.com to ask when the open days are happening.

Maybe a few hundred enquiries might force a change of heart..

I really enjoyed my first visit there last September and I’m gutted that nothing is planned this year!!

Dont forget they are still open every Sunday and most weeks you might get to see an engine run from 1 or more of the Jets.

I will be going up in the next couple of weeks, they need our support more than ever right now.

I doubt we will see any more Cold War Jet days there for a while.

I’m sure it was mentioned on here a while back about this, and that it was a consequence of the huge increases in pub.liability insurance since 9/11 that has put an end to these Brunty events…..

Only been once, but thoroughly enjoyed it (thanks Ben) and I’ve promised my other half and the kids that I will take them to watch the Lightnings and make their ears bleed, so IT MUST GO ON!!!! 😀

TTC – there’s nothing on the Cold War Jets site. It was suggested there (on that forum) about Emailing Brunters.

It was a few years ago now,but I remember sitting in the cockpit of one of the Lightnings minutes after it had shut down after a high speed run and taxy(waltz!) back. You could feel the heat off the engines and hear the cooling down noises, while the ground crew checked it over and the pilot showed me round the cockpit. Great memories and only possible at Brunters, bring the open days back. 😀

Thought that the LPG were still planning an event – is that off then?

A great experience for me. Quiet enough to be quite personal, close enough to runway to melt eyebrows. Superb photo opportunities. I have to say it’s absolutely fantastic to see these aircraft looked after. It would have been unheard of 10-15 years ago. It’s a pity they haven’t got hangarage. Saw Massive Machines on Discovery at weekend peering into the Guppy. Pity they can’t run that up. Pity they didn’t get one of the RAF’S Jetstream t.1’s too. 😉

I for one would love to go again, I went for the first time to the one in spring 2004… I was amazed to find out what I had been missing, and ‘on our doorstep’ as well (or at least it is to the Baginton ‘clique’ 😀 😀 😀 ).

And wow, can that Comet make some noise…..
