A mini event took place at Bruntingthorpe yesterday which saw Buccaneer XX894, Canberra WT333 and Lightning XS904 all take to the runway!
This was a low key event and was staged for two reasons. Buccaneer XX894 was the star attraction at the 809 Squadron reunion which allowed many ex Buccaneer service personnel and their families to get up close and personal to a ‘Live’ Buccaneer once more. One of the guests was invited to start both of XX894’s engines and he then proceeded to give a full static demonstration in front of his old colleagues. On jumping down from the cockpit, he commented that this was the first time he started a Bucc since 1977!
XX894 was run again later in the day, only this time the chocks were pulled out for a short taxi run. All went very well, so much so that we now have a confirmed twenty minute slot on the runway for the August 3rd open day!!! Unfortunately I do not have any photos of the static or taxi run due to being in the cockpit!
Lightning XS904 took to the Runway to celebrate the LPG’s 20th year! On June 24th 1988 XR728 touched down for the last ever time on Bruntingthorpe’s runway. Sadly, 728 is still ‘tech’ so 904 stepped in to do the honours!
20 years of hard work was rewarded when 904 preformed flawlessly with both burners lighting perfectly! Well done to the LPG!
Canberra WT333 also joined in the fun just because she could!
All in all a great day!

Looks like a fitting event for the people who attended. Keep up the good work to all involved.

Low key!
Your not kidding it was a “low key “event, we were there most of the day, and knew nothing about it!!! we could have put a J.P. on the line as well if we had known, just to make the others all look even bigger and faster!!!

Nice one mate, 😉
A great day, and like you say 904 did us proud, mind you she didnt want to play at first, gave us the run around for an hour with a spurious starter fuse snag, Lightnings !
Good to see you had a good day as well, Dennis our pilot for the day certainly did, having a go in 333 then jumping in 904.;)
You will be glad to hear our 20th anniversary ‘do’ up in the control tower went on into the wee small hours of Sunday morning, Peter Collins gave us all and enthralling after dinner talk about his and Jimmy Dells time on AFDS in the last 50’s when they were working hard to get the Lightning into service, some interesting stories and a very nice fella.
Have just got home, feeling some what ‘fuzzy headed’
We presented Dave Walton with a framed ‘Q shed scramble’ pencil line drawing for all of his unstinting support he has given us over the last 20 years, he was visably touched and thanked us with a few very nice supportive words, if it wasnt for him we wouldnt be doing what we do today.
Thankyou David 🙂
Here’s to the next 20 years
I will post a few of my snaps of the day on the Q shed thread later
Cheers 😉

Lovely shots, well done.
One day these Brunty events will have the weather on their side, though it looks like it improved later in the day?
