Brunty 19th May

Hi all, we had a busy day yesterday working on 728’s No1 starter snag, got it all tested ok, then spent an hour or so down the intake refitting it all.
We then did a fail safe and all looks good, didnt get time to uncover, prep her and check run the engine so this will have to wait till another weekend.

While we were there yesterday the guys who look after the Hunter asked us if we could assist them with giving her a ‘little’ run, so we preped her and fired her up, then did a little taxy round, so all being well she is ok for next Sunday 😀

Here’s a few piccies taken by Guy Hulme who owns the navy Bucc (I didnt have my camera)

It’s LE17 5QS John. There’s also a map of how to get to Bruntingthorpe on the main website for the airfield here

http://www.bruntingthorpe.com/images/pdfs/bruntingthorpe.pdf

(for anyone that hasn’t been before, the open day entrance is at the north end of the airfield)

Several of us lot are preparing to decent on the airfield, but I have a slight issue, is anyone going from the Newbury area that would be kind enough to give a lift to two of our members who are unable to drive, they will be more than prepared to help pay for the fuel.

Why wont she fly?

Hi Guys
The Hunter is potentialy airworthy, the owner has all the log books etc. But, the simple fact is that how many Hunter’s can the British airshow market, and MOD contract work in the UK support. Between Hawker Hunter Aviation (in my view easily the most profesionaly run ex military aircraft outfit in the UK), and theother guys down south at Exeter, Kemble etc. this market is flooded right now, and there are very few people in the UK who can afford this kind of flying for fun.
Quite simply, there are more potentialy airworthy Hunter’s than the pool of work to pay for them to keep flying in this country.
This particular Hunter may well fly again in the future, and she is looked after well with that in mind.
I am very close to the owner and the above statements are based on what he has told me personaly.
Hope this answers your questions. And if you want to get up close and personal with this aircraft, come to the Bruntingthorpe open day this Sunday 27th March 2007.
Best wishes.

Is it grounded because of anything specific. I shall be popping into Bruntinphorpe next week afer Abingdon on the Sunday

Glad to hear you got the starter snag sorted ! Will be at Brunti next weekend looking forward to it ! 😀
Keep up good work Scott

Hi Scotty, we havent fixed her yet, its a Lightning and you can never be sure, even when you fixed one snag there’s always one waiting in the ‘wings’ 🙂

We still need to check run the No1 engine

Keep you finger crossed for good weather
Cheers

All looking good to me:) , the Hunter looks realy nice and adds that extra something to Brunty.

Will both the ‘Girls’ be making an appearance next weekend?.

Regards,

John.

Thanks John, yeh the hunter is very nice, she is looked after well.
All we do is give the guys a hand with preps and running her.

As for our two 904 is at the moment Ok 728 is not a runner, we need more time to check start her after all this work on both starters we also need to do a static reheat run before we fast taxy her again, after all the work over the winter on the No2 jet pipe and AMCU.
So she will ‘just’ be static on cockpit tours on Sunday.

As for all the other resident jets I thingk most are OK to run, but not being to close to their goings on I couldnt possibly say for sure.

See you there
