Brussels Airlines launched

Today, five years after the bankruptcy of Sabena, the ‘new’ Belgian airline (out of SN Brussels Airlines and Virgin Express) was launched. There has been speculated much about the name – Sabena is believed to be the first name they wanted to use but that name is still property of the remains of Sabena.
So it became Brussels Airlines!

There are now two different price categories: B light and B light. The fusion airline should be fully operational by March 2007.

Airbus A319 of SNBA OO-SSG was the first plane to carry the ‘new’ color scheme.

I don’t like anything about it, and Brussels Airlines is a stupid name for a national carrier.

Why not call British Airways “London Airways” or Air France “Air Paris” or Icelandair “Reykjavik Air”? It’s the same stupid idea.

I think the dots are alright, but the light blue spreads way too high. Should stay lower.

I agree with Frank – pity they didn’t use the name Sabena AND keep the nice S on the blue background – the nicest livery currently in use anywhere. But maybe the switch to no frills in economy would be an insult to the Sabena name, Sabena always had very good service on their flights.

I’ve seen some Brussels Airlines 737 painted out of the VEX livery and they are hideous.

And we’ve got to go on one of those spotty tails this year 🙁

Well basically they only repainted the tail and kept the body on the SNBA A319. So I don’t know what they will do with Virgin Express’ 737’s. I hope they’ll keep the light blue belly and orange line.

Too bad they couldn’t get the Sabena name back… Or keep the “S”.

Don’t like the name at all! And just like Pete, shame the S-Tail has gone, but they did need to change it, as possibly there was too much reminders of Sabena?

oooh dear… replacing the beautiful S taillogo with a bunch of polka dots. Better get back to BRU again before all planes are painted over.

They sound the same to me.. 😉

The colour scheme is quite interesting though. A nice, bold red.
