Bucc Survivors

Hi

Which Bucc do people feel is the best not including the 3 flying in SA.

My vote goes to XN974 at the Yorkshire Aviation Museum hanged and taxied sometimes and its in top class condition. 🙂

Bournemouth Bucc Is Also Up There

Although briefly mentioned earlier, XX897 at Bournemouth Aviation Museum has got to be up there with the best of them.

Well looked after, maintained to a high standard, Hangared, able to Taxi Run and less that 900 hours on the clock, not bad at all.

I will post a recent image of her later, you can make your own minds up.

Andrewman 974 will never fly again

She is the original S.2 Bucc but half of her is S.1 stuff Including the brakes which are almost dead now. No spares=no flying

The plans for XK532 are as follows,

1, Get the aircraft into a presentable condition, (well on the way)

2, Ensure as far as possible it is water tight, (again well in hand)

3, Restore the rear cockpit, quite a big job as it is virtually barren, any spare parts gratefully accepted.

4, Restore front cockpit, (again well in hand)

5, Get hydraulic power restored

6, Get Electrical power restored

7, Have her acessable by the public.

As for the IFR, it is quite a complicated mechanism, which apparently is operated by a pneumatic system, we are currently unable to release the door mechanism, due to lack of accurate drawings (again any help here would be appreciated)

The aircraft has quite a bit of surface corrosion on the main legs, and a little on the Mag Alloy panels, but these can easily be hidden , once under the skin the aircraft is in remarkable condition with virtually no corrosion present,

Both engines are still fitted, and both turn,

A big task but one worth tackling.

Hi

Anyone any ideas what the current plans for XK532 are I’m aware its with the Highland Aircraft Preservation society and it has a retractable furl probe that they want to get working but anything else ?

XX885 is the Bucc HHA are trying to get flying again and it has a good chance but it could take a while yet.

Still it will be worth the wait it if it happens 🙂

OFMC Bucc

Does anybody have any news ideas on the OFMC machine at Scampton, I heard that they wanted to get it up and flying. It might be, however that they are working on it for another South African customer.

I would be great if it stayed and was alowed to fly in the UK

Yes what is the reason why the Bucc is unable to fly in the UK..does it fall in the Complex catergory like the Lightning etc..or does it lack the support of the design or support manu?

Yes Damien, the Brunty Photo was taken in Sept 1999 I believe it was the last taxi run of the Vulcan sob sniff…

I am pleased to see this bucc avtice again. The last time I saw this aircraft was in 1996 and it looked in ggod shape but I wasn’t aware how complete it was uintil she started her taxiing..!

Hi British Canuck

The engines have siezed through a long period of non usage but the wing fold attachments were cut at some point probably when the aircraft was moved to elvington the aircraft was there before i worked there so im not sure
