for those of you who have not heard of us, Buccaneer Restorations is a group of people who are currently working to move Buccaneer s2b xw544 from a construction yard in Shawbury to join the collection at Bruntingthorpe.
Plans are well in motion thanks in no small way to donations from the team at bruntingthorpe and from the aircrafts owner Rob Goldstone.
The Aircraft is on loan to us and we plan to( hopefully !) get 544 back into ground running condition. Stored in the yard since 1996 544 was sat on railway sleepers and jacking pins. The airframe and cockpit are in surprisingly goood condition with only some minor damage to the nose cone, and nose wheel bay door due to sinking. 544 had her wings removed in late May ready for the road move and we hope to be moving her early July.

We are aware of that, and from next year they will indeed allow you to do that. Although , i believe that you have to undertake training to police standards first. The move is being completed by a well known abnormal load handler with many aircraft moves under his belt.
The problem is other events occuring on the same weekends as we have planned for the move. Namely Thruxton’s motor racing. It will happen and as soon as i know for definate what date it will be posted on here to allow those who want to see 544 arrive to be there.

For the record. Many Police forces are happy to allow abnormal loads to have their own escorts if they can be persuaded that everything is in order.
PM me if you would like further info.

Andrew, I have also got an address for the East Midlands Airport Volunteers Association which is as follows:
J. Sandland, 37 Wigginton Road, Tamworth, B79 8RL.

Not heard anything from James B as yet.
You could try sending me your photos, I have an excellent program from Macromedia that allows me to minipulate all types of image file without any loss of detail.

nice to see those Buccsociety i have to admit i cant remember having seen those, although in my defence i have been shown a lot of bucc pics over the years. in fact most of my years !
Any luck remembering who it was who worked on XV350 ? i really would like to try and get something organised between us all. That leg is only going to get worse.
finally, i want to make sure anyone who is involved with the upkeep of 350 reading this thread is assured, no criticism is intended just help offered.

As promised, here are a couple of images of 544 leaving Cosford and arriving at Shawbury
By: adwwebber - 2nd July 2004 at 19:46
thanks for correcting that nigel,
i for one cannot wait for the opportunity to get a pic of the three together
By: JetBlast - 2nd July 2004 at 18:29
544 Was indeed a weapons loading trainer but she was at Cosford until till 96 when she was roaded out to Shawbury, hence why she had damage to one of her airbrake petals (hit one of the road signs outside Cosford). I have some pics of her on the low loader somewhere, I will try and find them later and post a couple up.
Judging by the amount of reads on this topic, there are quite a few people looking forwards to seeing THREE Bucc’s in the same place apart from South Africa.

as far as i know 544 arrived at Shawbury in 92 to be used as a armourer trainer. She was then towed across the airfield and into the yard where shes been since 1996.

Daft rule as long as there not doing high power setting runs then it shouldnt be a problem!

How did XW554 arrive at Shawbury? What was her post RAF history?
