As you will know, we are currently overhauling Buchon G-AWHE at Duxford. We are re-installing the film mock-up top engine cowl guns which were removed at some point when it was at Harlingen with the Confederates. Whilst we conveniently have Tom Blair’s aeroplane to copy for the protruding fairings, we don’t have the actual gun barrels for this position (though we do have the wing guns which we are refitting) and the ones on G-BWUE are straight out of Hollywood, being .3 calibre Browning look-alikes! Does anyone have any good quality close-ups of the top cowl gun barrels as fitted to the Buchons used in the Battle of Britain film? They don’t have to be shots from 1968 as many of the survivors in the States still have them fitted and from memory G-BJZZ/G-HUNN had them when it was here, though G-BOML didn’t. Any help would be useful. 🙂

Many thanks for your pictures Mark 12 they are the sort of thing we are needing, but perhaps a little closer to get an idea of the apperture of the barrel? Don’t mean to be picky though! As to Connie; well representatives from the company have visited him on several occasions and had complete freedom to roam and take pictures. Unfortunately not the kind of pictures that we need right now and they weren’t armed with my colour chip swatch cards either, so the answer as to “what colour did they paint them for the film” also remains elusive to me at present

No wonder they lost the Battle if they couldn’t shoot straight! :diablo:
