I was in Budapest about 3 weeks ago.

The airport was pretty standard; a typical European airport really in terms of infrastucture but I thought rather quiet on the movements front to say it is a capital city.

Enjoyed the service with Malev though…not a bad word to say about them.

How many foreign airports do BAA own anyway? And what’s with that report few months ago that a Spanish firm was to take ownership of LHR?

I believe BAA own Turin and Budapest airports abroad, in addition of course to their UK portfolio.

Ferrovial, the Spanish consortium, has made several bids for BAA, both of which were rejected as undervaluing the company – BAA is strongly opposed to this takeover and has offered shareholders a large dividend if they reject it.

Never knew BAA owned the airport, I wonder what will happen if BAA get taken over by this Spanish company who are interested in BAA.

erm im from liverpool so this is how we talk god i wont ask anymore questions and if i do dont answer them

OK, so it was a little joke. See the sticky; I apologise if I caused any offence.
To answer the original question in a serious and thoughtful manner, Budapest airport is now owned by BAA.
There are two terminals – which both connect after security. Malev have almost exclusive use of Terminal B – and Terminal A is used by the locos and scheduled carrriers. The airport feels pretty standard European, although there is an interesting control tower left over from Communist rule. Longhaul flights are provided to New York, Toronto and Beijing by Malev’s 767-200s.
Budapest itself is a great city and Hungary is a great country. It’s maybe slightly too far for a day trip – but well worth a visit none the less. 😉
