The Bugatti 100P project team posted this picture on their Facebook page, I think this is a fantastic achievement and that we should congratulate them. They report that the flight went well, although a braking issue caused a swing and nose over on landing, causing some damage.

From a quick Google search the original had x2 4.7l 450hp Straight 8 engines, whereas the replica has two 1300cc Hayabusa motorbike engines.

How much horsepower were the original motors rated at and what are the replica’s engines rated at?
By: Zac Yates - 1st November 2015 at 22:13
topspeed – I don’t think so, as the replica has much lower HP than the original.

Can’t wait for some quality air to air photos and video with the gear retracted.

I wonder if they are going to push the envelope with it ?
It was supposed to be the hottest thing ever as it was designed.
Top speed was estimated at 550 mph in 1937.

She’s back and looking great! I’m pleasantly surprised by the turnaround from nose-over to second flight. Congratulations to all involved! I has a stupid grin on my face watching the air-to-air video.

Congratulations to them!!
Pity about nose over, but considering the achievement a small price!

A very nice job he made of it too!
I totally missed that – I should get out (of the workshop) more!

There will be RC models made of that one!
It’s been done a number of times, most notably I would imagine by well known (In the USA at least) electric “guru” Keith Shaw.

Not an RC model but there is a rather nice static 1/24 scale resin model of the Bugatti – http://fishermodels.indiemade.com/product/bugatti-100p-record-plane-124-scale?tid=1

That is certainly en elegant beast!
There will be RC models made of that one!
Couldn’t help thinking that was a somewhat different outcome from the first flight of the Stirling prototype which wrote off the aircraft due to brakes locked on.

What fantastic news. I only hope the damage is light and that they can fly again before too long.
